This is a perfectly legitimate statement, as most raid controllers talk to the processor more than a single IDE controller. This can definately be a performance decrease in games. However, with enough RAM, everything is put into memory anyways, and the only time it's reading from the hdd is for music and fmv.

i give u a 6.9.
my reasons:

CPU - one acronym, SMP
RAM - PC1066 RDRAM is faster than DDR, not by much, but its still faster, you're still using DDR, and only 512 MB
HD - IDE raid is a joke... SCSI Raid is much better, very pricy, but performance is unbeatable.
VID - I currently own a 8500 128 mb also, but its a fact that Ti4600 is faster. WAY faster. dont compare FPS to a
game that is couple years old...it will be CPU limited.
SND - SB Live...enough said. Santa Cruz / Acoustic Edge / Audigy are better.
PSU - Enough wattage...but voltage is low. I get 12.2 v on my Antec True Power full load.
SPK - Not even the 4.1 setup...
CDR - There are 40x burners out.

so basically, there are better parts to just about every part you have...so you had no merit getting angry at bob970 when he said its far from the best, cause it is. This is a computer techie forum...the best is WAAAAY out there. still very nice

well i would have bought better speakers, but i have a home entertainment system that sounds much better than any computer speakers possibly could, so why waste the money on it?

and actually there are 48x burners out, but good try on making me look stupid.

anything over 24x is perfectly fine. there is a difference of like 30 seconds between a 36x burner and a 40x burner...OMG amazing


the PSU was free, so i dont mind it sucking too bad, i still get a good overclock so it works for me

i still dont see much use in more than 512mb of ram....i might get another 256, but ill stop there. i dont do anything that requires more than that so its really invalid to this.


and like i keep saying, there is absolutely no difference in sound quality, so why would i waste 90 dollars on features im never going to use and just listen to my SB Live? i dont see anything wrong with that

and jojo just so you know ive compared this card to a ti4600 and the difference is almost negligable. well, maybe not that close, but the fact that it is a year older is crazy that it still competes, and especially so closely. and if the card is CPU limited, then ill get a new CPU sometime soon but i couldnt afford it right now. ill get a 2.4ghz sometime soon and hopefully get it to 3.0ghz....that would be nice lol


anyways, 6.9 was good enough, it was close to the average im looking for of 7.0....and it was balanced out by the 7.1 lol
