1. Going to be mainly gaming. (And college course work)

2. $1850-2000 Was about the range I was shooting for when I started, and I think I hit it pretty well.

3. USA

4. Not a fanboy. If it's a good product/price I'll buy it regardless of the brandname.

5. I'm donating my old computer (this one) to my friend who had his damaged in the last big storm we had in my area.

6. I've lurked on this board in particular for a while now, sniffing around while waiting for the 4870x2 so I'd be ready when it came out.

7. I wouldn't mind learning how to overclock, but since this is my first time really building my own rig it's not my top priority. (I'll have help from a friend who is wise in the ways of computers, he knows how to OC)

8. I plan on slapping it together as soon as the parts get here, hopefully before the end of next week.

I know that Newegg is short on 4870x2s, but that's about the price I'm getting from the site I'm actually ordering mine from. So this one suits the purposes of fleshing out my list.
As I said I'm willing to go to $2000 if someone sees an area I really need improvement in.

All things considered, I'd have to rate your rig 3.75 out of 10. :roll:

 
Just a word to the wise, people generally appreciate seeing the parts list on your post rather than having to open up a new tab/window just to look at it.

Looks like a pretty typical list.
 
I think your going to have a hell of a great experience. However, the 4870X2 may be overkill for that 22" monitor. Have you considered the regular 4870 ?

Other than that, looks great :thumbsup:

Yeesh.. Little harsh there considering that was my first ever post on these forums. I had no idea that wishlists weren't the way to go, but it seemed a whole lot easier than listing out the build piece by piece when it's already right there. But hey, now I know.

@ JPB: Thanks for the positive feedback! I was thinking about stepping up to a 24" inch, would that be a good reason/excuse for using the 4870x2? (Excuse for myself, in my head.. for spending all this money)

The 4870x2 makes a lot more sense if you're going to be using a 24" display.

I agree with the single 4870 recommendation even if you up the monitor to 24", the 4870 x2 is only worth the price diff with a 30" monitor IMO. The extra frames you get with a 4870 x2 on a 24" will be small for 2x the price. And if you go the single GPU route you can also save money on the PS and drop down to the Antec 650w
 
For a first build your going to spend 2 grand? You must be rich man.. But yeah looks like a typical build it should be fine.. just don't make any noob mistakes. If you want to be spending that much..and you want to game the hell out of yourself..grab a big monitor and sweet card and 4gb of RAM on Vista. You really only need a typical core 2 duo and OC the hell out of it. Quad cores won't help much for gaming unless your school work requires you to be doing 3-d rendering and CAD work.. etc.
 
I would get a 2ms response time LCD. I don't know how scientific this example is but a while back I had a 20" 5 or 7ms response and this Viewsonic 2ms 19" ...I hooked up both monitors to my dual DVI outputs to test for differences and over several boots the 2ms was consistently faster. Again, I don't know how scientific that was but it sold me and all i'll buy will be 2ms LCD's to game with.
