Rate my Media/Gaming Rig

I just put in the order today.... Took me about a month of not eating out and no going out to the movies, for, but, I think it was worth it. It's not top of the line stuff, but I think it's decent.

What do you guys think? I dont mind you guys telling me what I should have gotten instead 😛

Everything looks good except for the PSU. XG Vortec with all those high quality components you have? I would get a Seasonic/Fortron 500W+ PSU.

Guess your not going to run in dual channel? Pretty sure all 4 sticks have to be the same size at least.

I did not even know you could run dual channel with 4 sticks, for sure you can't (or it's really hard) run that that in 1T so your performance will take a hit. I would send back the 2nd set of ram sticks or use that in another machine.

I also agree about the PSU. Get a Fortron, Seasonic, Antec, or Enermax psu in order to have a quality unit in that machine. You can get an antec supply for cheap ($50) same as a Fortron and I would be more comfortable with those than the one you have.

Other than that the system looks good. From the components you chose it looks like you spent alot for a "not top of the line". That 4400+ for instance costs a pretty penny and 675gb of hdd space is a bit extreme. If it where me I would have "settled" for a 3800+ X2, smaller hard drives and spent the money on a better PSU and a 7800GTX.

Though, what is the problem with the PSU I have selected? Is their quality bad?

Never heard of them, with today's high-powered rigs, you can't afford to chance the most critical component of your computer, the PSU (it makes everything turn on 🙂). Stay with something from Fortron/Seasonic/PC&Power and you are good to go. BTW I would ditch the thermaltake heatsink, get a THermalright SP9 from SVC.com and just add your own 80MM fan. This is a far better heatsink and will give you some room to OC (if you plan to). If you are not overclocking, just get 2x1gb value ram from either Corsair/Crucial/Kingston. But if you are, I would HIGHLY recommend Patriot 2x1GB PC3200LL which has some tight timings with some good OCin potential.
