Here's another example of mysterious slowness. When my megui encode started multiplexing, it was going really slow...like 1% for every 5 seconds. You can see here that after 2 minutes, it was only 42% done, and it was projected to take almost 5 minutes:

On my old machine, it takes about 1 minute for mp4box to multiplex:

As it turns out, the new box finished multiplexing in 3 minutes, so it really sped up of the the last 58%. But still, why would faster hardware take 3x longer?

Seems like there might actually be something wrong with this build if it's actually operating slower than your older system.

Can you start just by running Windows Experience Index to tell us the scores for each component? Everything other than graphics should be in the high 7s.

Got sick of "laggieness", so i partitioned off ssd into 50gb for XP and the rest for win7. So far I've only installed XP, and now it flies. Not even sure If I'm going to bother dual-booting now. Other than supporting my customers on Win 7, I have no need for it and sure doesn't outperform XP, IMHO.

DO NOT GO BACK TO XP. FIX YOUR WINDOWS 7 INSTALL. Sorry dude, windows XP will not be a good move for you going forward. Not only can it not address all your RAM, but new Apps won't even run on it. It's at the end of life for OS updates, and is prone to viruses and malware. I can't say this loud enough.
