Glad it worked out for you. I agree with one of the comments on the first page; it should have been obvious in the braking mechanism if the brake had been left on during use. Had this not worked out, I'd have recommended making them open the saw and show some kind of evidence to back up what they were saying.

Definitely more than a bad clutch if truly unfixable.

Good news. I hope this experience has taught you to NOT run the saw with the brake engaged!

Excavators have an analog turn counter inside, goes from -16 to +16. You want to try to keep it close to 0. Especially on rentals or they'll nab you with extra fees. Be kind, rewind.

Great that it worked out in the end. Though it looks like you had to wait quite a while for a resolution which is still annoying.

right - this has been going on since May when I opened my first case with Stihl. In the meantime, I haven't had a chainsaw. Since I live in the woods, that's been a big problem.

Thought heavy machine operators did excavators as well as cranes?
or tower cranes are different?

ok, paging @skyking

I've operated excavators, but it was never my thing...and fuck tower cranes. I spent one 8 hour shift in one as an apprentice...185' up in the air. Never again.

thought you said you were the highest in the air above everyone in a crane thus why you refuse to wear a hard hat in the cab.

if it's not a tower crane, then what were you in??
