I'm choosing parts for my computer and want to make sure it'll work..

These are the parts I chose so far

(might get the antec P182 since it has better reviews)

I had exams and my dad was like buy it after ur done 😛 and my exams end next week so yeah !

Oh, and almost forgot

1. I'm going to use my computer for graphics work, maybe some gaming, but mostly as a workstation
2. My budget is around.. I guess 1500 euros. It'll be good if I get get it a bit cheaper
3. I live in Belgium and can buy around Holland too but I'd prefer Belgium since I get tax benefits
4. Don't really have a brand preference but I like Intel 😛
5. Don't have any

7. I'd like to overclock it if it really doesn't do any damage
8. I plan to build it... around end of June of maybe up to mid-July depending on when my dad orders the stuff for me


- as for the OS, I'm going to try to install Gentoo Linux and if I fail I'll just go with my plain old Ubuntu.. (possibly dual booting with XP)
- I have a 24" Samsung Syncmaster 245B
- A set of crappy 2.0 stereo speakers (I usually user earphones/headphones)
- Logitech MX Revolution Mouse
- some wireless keyboard from this really random company called "Trust"
- 3 External harddrives.. (500gb, 500gb, 250gb)
- I need to use wireless as I don't have any jacks in my room

- Do I really need a 8800GTX? I'm not really into hyper 3D gaming

No reason to pay for an included 1200W PSU when you just plain don't need it. The P182 will do you just fine.

Especially since you're willing to overclock, I would go with the Q9450 over the Q9550. You'll pay a lot less money and lose little to nothing in terms of performance. If your graphics work is not multithreaded though, I would strongly consider stepping down even further to an E8400. (For single-threaded or dual-threaded work it would be faster than any of the above mentioned quads.) By the way, if you have the Freezer 7 Pro you don't need the other CPU cooler.

As far as the hard drives, those Seagates are both a year old. I would probably go with two WD 640GB drives which would be a little bit higher performance and give very similar total capacity.

Your motherboard has IEEE 1394 headers according to the specs, so I don't know that the discrete Firewire card is necessary.

In the graphics department the 8800GTX has been essentially replaced by the 8800GTS 512MB. The newer card is almost as fast (in some cases faster) and uses significantly less power. The 8800GTS can also usually be found for less money. If you're not gaming as much and mostly doing professional work though, I have to wonder if a workstation-class card would be a better fit. It's not something I know enough about to make a recommendation.

managed to reduce the price by 500 XD

Oh, and I decided to be more specific with my use of the computer.
I'm going to use it for
Watching movies and anime of considerable size and would like to be able to run high quality MKV files.
I'm going to occasionally create videos using Adobe Aftereffects CS3 or some other Linux program along with basic graphics work with Adobe Photoshop CS3.
Of course, I'm going to do school work on it 😛
I'm going to program on it
And I'd like to be able to run a virtual machine of windows on Linux without having any noticeable performance changes.
