I just posted a Hottie on a TigerDirect SB Live 5.1 Platinum Barebones System here. and I forgot to mention that they've got a pretty nice price on an Intel Pentium III 900 FCPGA, Fan & Slot 1 Adapter for $199.99 These are kind of rare, OEM only CPU's. Don't question it, go look at Intel's S-Spec page here: Pentium III S-specs ;)

Maybe not too hot of a price, but it would go nice in that SB Live 5.1 Platinum System. Here's the link for this CPU:

hmmmmm. I wish I could get it without the converter and fan for cheaper. Still pretty good deal though.

geneman: if you look at the prices, this includes a slot adapter ( at least a $15 value) and heatsink/fan combo (at least a $10 value) so you must admit the processor cost of $174 is indeed a hot deal.

How does the slot 1 adapter work? I have an old system with a slot 1 mb that has multiplier ratios from 3.0 to 7.0. Can I somehow use the adapter to put in a 900 MHz CPU, and how?

Yeah, I figured that since this is a 100MHz FSB processor, and the 800 and 850 at pricewatch are still $179, this seemed like a decent price to include the slot 1 adapter and fan. (thanks kumanchu)

anazoal, you might need to update your BIOS to have support for coppermine processors. Since the multiplier is locked into these processors, sometimes they just work no matter where you set the multiplier. A BIOS update might also be useful if the CPU multiplier settings are done in the BIOS. On motherboards with jumpers or dipswitches for setting the CPU multiplier, I know some motherboards are able to use the high multiplier CPU's by reusing some of the lower multipliers. (4.5 would be used for 8.5 , 5.0 is used for 9.0, etc.) Best advice is to check out the motherboard manufacturer's website.

Well. you can get a 700 cheaper and overclock it, but then your probably gonna need something better than a $10 HSF. So if you really had to have a cpu at this speed right away, this looks like a descent deal. If I had just paid for a VP6 and 2 p3 700's I would consider getting one for the BX6r2 board I just pulled out to stick in a new case.

got 2 a little while ago
3 to 5 days for UPS ground
they are best for the older Asus boards that only allow up to 112 and don't truely support the PIII
900 at 1008 for 2 bills is a hot deal to me.
I can't find these chips anywhere
Tiger must have bought the lot.

I am seriously thinking about buying one. Hopefully, I can extend the life of the 2 year old Abit BH6 in my main box for another year or so. You are right. These are rare.

Slightly OT, but the CPU upgrade path on my main box has been:

300 Celeron@450 MHz
533 Celeron
700 Celeron
PIII 600E (Got $5.00 in it 'cause I bought it with a bunch of other parts)

And I stayed with the same board the entire time. Rock solid running Win2K/98SE dual boot.

Hope TigerDirect comes through. Heard some bad things. Even saw a website devoted to bashing them for poor service.

But, I'll take a chance. Good find. Thanks! :)

These are multiplier-locked right? so if my mobo has a max 8x multiplier can I use one at say 112*8 = 896 MHz or not?

I have Abit BE6-II....
Does anybody know what's the multiplier for this CPU???
You think I can set it at 100Mhz x 9, because I can choose the multiplier up to 11 on the MB?
Thanks.

I have the same board as brab and I want to know if it'll work on our boards?

Oops I realized I have the BX6 Revision II. Would it work now?

They have them in stock and $189 is just for the CPU...

I warmly suggest u call and order instead of ordering online...

sygyzy: It will work with our mb...don't worry..

This certainly looks like a good deal.

If you could get a motherboard and Athlon 950 for the same price which would be the better deal. I can upgrade either way, intel or amd, but which is the better choice if both set ups are the same price?

2.8/7.0 for Tiger Direct on ResellerRatings. I steer clear of them, no matter what their prices. I warned a friend about them, he didn't heed my warning, and ended up getting screwed over on a Athlon/MB combo..

Just ordered mine over the phone. I got 2 for my dual system for 410 with 2nd day shipping not bad considering for me to get 1 850 slot 1 cpu it would have cost 212 a piece retail.

I have ordered from TigerDirect in the past, and everything has always been perfect. When they say it's in stock, it ships as I request, and when an item is out of stock, they send a postcard to let me know.:)

I would never post a hot deal if the company has screwed me, but this place has always treated me right.
