Not at all. The Placebo affect is what people place on the slower drives who wish to deny the Raptor its advantage. An ~8mb per second average increase in data transfer is sizable. 8,500,000+ extra bytes of data being transfered every second of operation is going to be felt by the user when he is either loading a large application, opening a large file or playing a game which loads large amounts of data.
Only a complete dullard would not recognize the difference in Oblivion when new area is loading while walking outdoors. It's a clear and objective improvement in this game in particular.
But as I stated this is only a comparison of these two particular drives and could easily be showing that the 320GB Barracuda is slower than the Raptor, not that the Raptor is faster than any other specific drive. I'm not biased towards the Raptor in any way, but it is faster than the specific drive it replaced.
