Those that have a Raptor Lake build should chime in with what they have. Post your build and system benchmarks if you have any.

My build:

13700KF
MSI Z690 Force WiFi
32gb G.Skill 7200 CL34 DDR5
2tb Samsung 970 EVO NVMe
Thermaltake ToughPower GF3 1000w ATX 3.0 PSU
Gigabyte RTX 4090 Gaming OC
Noctua NH-U14S HSF

Great system that runs cool, quiet and fast. Upgraded a 12700K to this configuration.

Edit: new BIOS out that allows my MB to run DDR5 at 7200

Benches:
CPU at stock, HSF tower setting in BIOS gives me a 28922 CB23 score. (score updated later in thread)

I'm in the process of gathering the parts for my build. Will take several months because a lot of inventory has already been sold out and on backorder here in the U.S and I'm not paying scalper or highly inflated prices, but I'm patient.

This is what I have in mind:

13900K (not purchased yet)
Gigabyte z790 Aorus Master (not purchased yet)
G.Skill DDR5 7200 32GB (not available for sale yet)
RTX 4090 or 7900XT (waiting to see what kind of performance RDNA3 delivers before I buy a GPU)
EVGA 1600w platinum power supply (already bought)
SK Hynix 2TB Platinum P41 NVME SSD (already bought)
Noctua NH-U12A Chromax (already bought)
Fractal Design Torrent eATX RGB (already bought)
Samsung Neo G8 32 inch 4K 240Hz monitor (already bought)

If Intel decides to releases an 13600 that is 65W; before November 25th; I may jump ship and get it since the other costs are much cheaper like the motherboard; memory.:)

I recommend an ATX 3.0 PSU if you go 4090. The adapter that is suppled is a fail.

Lets see some of those memory overclocks. I've seen on overclock.net where some have near 8000 speeds. ~120GB/s to ~140GB/s read speeds. Crazy fast.

It makes those tweaking DDR5 on AM5 seem kind of silly.

anyone running into this PCIe bifurcation on Z790? Rog strix and hero z790 manual states that if top m.2 slot is populated then graphics card only gets x8. At first it appeared that was only if the m.2 was pcie5 but from more thorough investigation it appears the x8 split happens when any m.2 ssd is in the top slot. So, if you have a z790 build with a 980 pro gen4 drive in top slot your 4090 is then only getting x8 4.0 ? can anyone confirm?

bifurcation
It's not really bifurcation it's lane management. If you want to run gen5 drives there's a board with a native M2 and it's the velocita .

I don't care about running a Gen 5 drive. I want to run a gen 4 drive in top slot and still have x16 on graphics slot

I am trying to select my RAM. I can't find any videos or articles testing speed or timing scaling for Raptor Lake. Anyone have anything? I found something for Alderlake, but I am not sure if its that close.

I don't think any review site is interested in testing memory scaling since the memory controller for Raptor Lake is basically the same as Alder Lake, just slightly tweaked for stock DDR5-5600 operation. Generally, DDR5-6400 CL32 kits are easy to find and affordable so go with that.

This is faster but also more expensive: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/py...6-gb-ddr5-6600-cl32-memory-cmh32gx5m2x6600c32

Thanks for that info!

I think I will try to find something equivalent to either of those two. I am heavily leaning towards this motherboard: Gigabyte Z790 AERO G

It seems to compare very favorably to their next step up at $200 more, the Gigabyte Z790 AORUS MASTER

As best I can tell, the only things you get for $200 is a special digital to analog headphone amplifier if you are using wired headphones and 10gbps LAN.

Since my house is only wired at 5e I am limited to 2.5gbps I believe and I don't even have the switching equipment to use it or the need.

Edit: I guess I forgot to mention the minor difference in WIFI connectivity. The AERO G features Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 vs the Master having Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX411. Based on the spec sheet there is not much difference:

Are you fricking serious?!? I ordered an Asus Z790 Strix E motherboard today. If it has that problem, I will cancel the order!

*Edit*

OK after checking on the manual, it says that if you use the M2.1 slot then it will decrease the speed of the top PCIE slot which makes sense because that is ran from the CPU and connects directly with the GPU.

But there are 4 other slots which run from the chipset where you can get the full PCIe4.0 bandwidth without affecting the performance of the primary lane.

I haven't had a mainstream board in a very long time so I'm used to having a lot more PCIE lanes connected to the CPU on Intel's older HEDT boards.

But I don't see why you can't run the SSD off of the chipset if you really want to preserve the full 16 lanes for the GPU.

I bought some G.Skill DDR5 7200 memory. Will be picking it up from Microcenter tomorrow, but my motherboard won't arrive till probably the end of the week or early next week.

Will definitely do some memory benches though when it gets here. From what I've heard, the Hynix A die memory can easily overclock.

Instead of buying a 13900K I bought a 13900KF. Is there any difference in heat dissipation between the two? One would think the 13900KF would run a bit cooler, but maybe I'm wrong.
