Raptor 74GB Raid 0

I have a friend (really...I do) that I put a rig together for as follows P4C800E Deluxe, 3.2 MHz, gig of corsair pc4400, ATI 9800XT, and a single Raptor 74gig.......He now wants to add another in Raid. My question is ....will their be a "BIG" performance gain? in say HL2, and Americas Army that he will notice for a $180.00?

Increased HD performance almost always translates into greater transfer rates, disk access times, and other file transfer related functions. I'm thinking the only way one would see a difference in graphics performance is if you had an old 5400 rpm drive without a lot of storage capacity or a small amount of RAM that would cause the game to have to use virtual memory resulting in a lot of disk swapping which could in theory correspond to decreased performance. Then again, this could easily be regarded as an insufficiency in the memory. This is probably why it is a good idea to couple fast hard drives with a lot of fast RAM.

If I am wrong please tell me.

Click the Storage tab at the top of the page, read the article on exactly this question.

Also, this gets asked often in this forum. It's a good idea to learn to use the search box at the top of the threads list (and Advanced Search link) so you get your answer instantly and aren't making people repeat themselves to answer you.
