I would be hard to actually have a "new computer" with drives that haven't been produced yet.

The only reason I can think of to spend money on putting Raptors in Raid 0 is that every other part of your rig is already maxed out.

I mean HDs can be a bottleneck for some programs, but dumping money into super fast HDs has got to be the lowest bang for the buck that I can think of. Well except for case mods.

Yes, but I'm the kind of person who writes in a better answer for multiple choice questions.

If mgrosh has the money to throw around on Raptors in RAID 0, more power to him, but you have to admit it's not a big bang-for-the-buck winner.

And 2 x 7200.10's in RAID 0 is a much better use of cash.

yes my concern is that the cost for two raptors is kinda high..

i already have 2 7200 rpm drives that i can use for now..

Any idea when then new drive with built on memory are susposed to hit?




whats the speed difference between
2 raptors using raid0 74gb ~$300
1 raptor 74gb ~$300
2 7200.10's using raid0 250gb ~$160

If I had the money, yes I would get at least one Raptor. I don't like RAID, so I wouldn't use it, but you can put your OS on the Raptor and you will see a difference if you keep it lean and mean.

BTW, I have no idea when the new HD's are coming out.

there is benchmarks on Anandtech concenring raptors in raid 0 it showed minor improvements for the basic person. Raid 0 is also risky because the data is stored on two different drives and split up if one HD fails all your data is gone.

Raptors are overated anyways not much faster than a standard 7,200 drive get a large drive instead so you can store more data and it will still be fast.

Shens, I had two machines with the exact same spec's minus the hard drives. One had the 1st gen raptor, the other a 7200.9.

You can feel the difference from the Raptor.
