I think that in place of jails, we should make a "Human Recycling Facility" that is in essence a giant meat grinder. After a thug gets arrested so many times, he's euthanized and put in the grinder, which turns him into sausage. Then that sausage is fed to the homeless.

I got the idea from GTA, by the way.

I've been listening more to positive stuff lately, like intelligent rap. Immortal Technique, Common, Talib, Aesop Rock...I think that's what rap is supposed to be,

For some reason it seems you cant ever have it all. You either have good beats and terrible rhymes. Or good rhymes and terrible beats :p Common is pretty good. But to me their beats are terrible.

But I'd still rather listen to that than this DJ UNK stuff I just got for mixing XD

The problem is mainstream rap sucks, just like the mainstream of every other genre of music! Rap is just easy for latent racists to target.

From Dead Prez's song "Hip Hop", copy and pasted so ignore the lack of capitalization etc:

We ride for yall, all my dogs stay real
****** dont think these record deals gonna feed your seeds
And pay your bills because they not
Mcs get a little bit of love and think they hot
Talkin bout how much money they got, all yall records sound the same
I sick of that fake thug, r & b, rap scenario all day on the radio
Same scenes in the video, monotonous material, yall dont hear me though

These record labels slang our tapes like dope
You can be next in line, and signed, and still be writing rhymes and broke
You would rather have a lexus, some justice, a dream or some substance?
A beamer, a necklace or freedom?

Not sure what that has to do with rap music... but it's pretty similar to Soylent Green too.

I'm glad that the news finally realized what a lot of people who like rap realized a while ago: all this ****** does sound the same, and I'm glad that their sales are tanking. Maybe this will allow rappers who can rap about something besides murder/drug dealing/money/bitches/cars/jewelry to come to the forefront.

Of course, none of this would be a problem if people didn't get caught up in the beat to the expense of the lyrics, but whatever.

"They want [black artists] to shuck and jive, but they don't want us to tell the real story because they're connected to it."

I remember talking about how Ludacris was zip cooning about 3 years ago, and people acted like I was crazy. Turns out I was on the same page as this guy and Dead Prez.

Rock is being revived finally. RHCP had one of the best albums of the year, and the Grammy's showcased that. Velvet Revolver is putting out another album. Guns N' Roses are poised to return in a big way. Aerosmith is putting out another album this year. Metallica is making their comeback. Younger bands like Saliva,Hinder, and Evanescence are getting a lot of mainstream attention. Now is probably the best time to be a rock fan since the early 90's.

I listen to some rap and there hasn't been an album that I've really liked for a few years now. However, the best stuff was done by Tupac and Dre.

I love music...it is my passion. I like some rap but the mainstream stuff is just no good. Back in the day when rap started it was cool, fresh, and a lot of it was harmless. I mean it was a lot more fun and a lot less degrading. Now the mainstream stuff is all about hoes, drugs, and money. I don't get why people are so into it, expecially the girls. I will walk around my campus and there will be a bunch of black kids sitting around a TV. The rapper on the BET network is talking about woman is terrible ways and the girls just love it. Then we get the clothing styles and gansta talk from these music videos. My college is in the middle of no where, its no hood, and yet these kids are talking like they are from the streets. The rappers on TV are making these kids say and dress horribly.

That being said...I like good rap. Look beneath the crap and you will find underground rap, and the such. I went to a del la soul concert last summer and they were great!

The decline of rap album sales has less to do with the quality of the music coming out/size of its fan base and more to do with the age demographic of rap's core audience. Young, Net Savvy, and unafraid to download illegally or copy from a friend.

Everything on the radio sounds the same nowadays. I don't even turn it on anymore.

Hell it's easy for everybody to target, Racist, Non Racist, etc. Rappers are easy to target too, Tupac for instance.

.. yes. their loony death tunes became a self fulfilling prophecy and their behavior was similar to the corner crack dealer enforcing his sales territory with bullets.

I HATE the beats that common raps over as well, but his lyrics really bring it up. I love Dead Prez's beats, and their lyrics.

I also like sheek louch, even if it's not very refined, he always ends up rapping over sick beats, and he's a great punch line rapper
