This program SUCKS! I can't find anything at all over the network. The worst part, when I tried to go uninstall it there's no way to do it! The program doesn't show up in the add/remove programs box, and if you go to the dir it's installed in the "uninstall winmx" icon has a big red x through it. When you click it, it asks if you want to uninstall. When you click yes it does nothing! ARGH! Now I've got crap on my system that I can't get rid of.

I have been using WinMX since napster went down, it had always been good to me. I dont know whats wrong with your install but it shows up on my Add/Remove programs list and the uninstall icon is perfectly fine in the directory folder.

If you are not finding what you are looking for you shoud try the TrippyMX plugin....Here.

I've hit 100k/s with some downloads on winMX, usualy they're in the 10-20k/s range, which I can live with.

I can find lots of MP3s on WinMX, but they all either time out or go on endless queue. So I use Kazaa w/ a fake spyware DLL so it doesn't actually show any ads.

Heh, well ALL of the stuff I try to download on WinMX times out or goes into queue, and since I'm on dialup I just can't sit there forever and wait for it to get out of queue and actually start to download. Now WinMX 3 looks more promising, but it's not out of beta yet, and there's not much to be found there. So that's why I "freaking hate WinMX," although I must qualify that statement by limiting it to version 2.6. Kazaa works much better for me.

I have used WinMX for the past two weeks, and have, for the most part, had good luck with it. Speeds are not always that great, but I usually get what I try to get eventually. Have patience, damn. I like the program a lot.

It's not my patience (I've waited over a week to download Redhat 7.2 ISOs on a dialup connection, which I left on overnight), but the fact that under usual circumstances I can't just leave the thing dialed up without utilizing it, and let it alone to wait for some little MP3 to come out of somebody's queue. And more often than not, I'll get kicked out of queues, since people see that I'm on dialup and apparently don't want me taking up a connection to their server or something.

Yea, I tend to agree. Seems with WinMX everything goes into endless queue!! Just noticed as well that I dont have WinMX in my Add and Remove programs and as you state in the WinMX folder the ininstall has a red X through it? Whats up with that?

I only use WinMX because I can trust it and it has a very good selection of music. I do not d/l movies so I'm not concerned if most transfers are 10-20KB/sec.

It seems only to be with the latest version 2.6. I've looked around and there are people all over the place that have this problem. It's not a user error, it was deliberately put into WinMX to keep the installed base higher. It's the file-sharing wars... whoever has the highest user count wins, so they are basically forcing you to have it. I think that is really shady... for now the only way to get rid of it cleanly is to reformat :disgust: and I really don't want to do it.

If you're on dial up, you should steer clear of any file sharing programs, no matter if they have file resume or not. Cause you know, that resume crap never works like advertised, so you waste a lot of hours. If you can find a buddy who has broadband(or anyone online, for that matter), get them to download the ISO, which would take about an hour for them, and then setup an FTP for you or something. That way, you won't waste hours on end waiting for stuff to get out of queues, WinMX/Kazaa/or otherwise.
I'd be willing to do this for someone, as my internet fees just went up $3 per month, so I really want to stick it to the man and suck up my share of bandwidth. :)

oh ok, i guess its okay for just music, i was thinking more about movies. i think kazaa lite is the best for music and decent for movies.
