RANT: Why won't Newegg allow local pickup?

I know this is Fedex's fault rather than Newegg's, but I'll get more attention with Newegg in the title :p

I live maybe 5-10 minutes away from the Newegg NJ distribution center/warehouse whatever.
OK, so I ordered a Chieftec case on Tuesday and it ships from NJ. Great, I'll probably get it in 2 days I'm thinking.
Now I check Fedex tracking and and scheduled delivery won't be until next Monday!?!
WTF, I get faster shipping from CA!

The dumbest thing is they have to ship it all the way to north NJ to the Newark Fedex hub, and then it will go back down to the Edison hub which is in central NJ, about 10 minutes away from their warehouse (10 mins away from my house as well).
I know that's not Newegg's fault, but why doesn't Fedex just have it go straight to the Edison Fedex hub?

On top of slower shipping, I have to pay tax, even though most of the times, they ship from CA.
Arghh... why doesn't Newegg allow pickup? Or do they?

How was that for a rant? :D

Cliff notes: To sum it up, why is it faster to receive an item from california 3000 miles away than it is to receive it literally 5 miles away :|

They put a warehouse in TN? How long has it been there and is it operational yet? I would love that! I live in MS. Right now I despise the NJ warehouse it takes things two days longer than it does for what is shipped out of Cali. If the TN warehouse is up and running I have yet to see anything from Newegg saying that something was shipped from there.

Because their tax license or something doesn't allow local pickups. Otherwise they would become a retail outlet.

If you like the low prices, quit bitching.

How do you think places like Newegg & ING Direct thrive?

No retail presence = Much lower insurance, among other things.

But amazon shipping is free! :D

Quit your complaining! Do you know that most of the newegg items are free shipping, and much faster then amazon at times with their free shipper? I don't think so.

Wouldn't you be upset too? I'm practically walking distance from the warehouse in NJ.

Why does Fedex choose to ship it 30 miles north, then 35 miles south?
Especially when they have a distribution hub 10 miles away?

exactly. The only thing that sucks for you is the tax thing on top of it. I didn't ever stop to think CA people had to pay tax for Newegg... sucks for them.

many don't have the storefront to allow a local pickup situation. The building management would complain about all the cars using their spots also many times.

Most online retailers choose warehouse space/office park type deals where you get 1 or 2 spots per business and are not setup for businesses that have constant customers.

Also many times it's easier to only allow mail order. When we dealt with endusers they would often show up with their PC's at our door before we even started for the day demanding we fix their machines. We deal in connectivity products that require no software :) yet when they install AOL or the like to use our connectivity item and it hoses their machine they came to us.

If you have a store front you then need more employees also.

You should consider the time of year as well.

You ordered a product to be shipped by Fedex the week before Christmas.
They've probably got thousands of packages out every orafice right now that they're trying to get to where they need to be on time.
Maybe your package went way out of the way, maybe it's just taking longer than usual on a normal rute, who knows.

It's being delivered today. Fedex shows it's on vehicle for delivery although the estimated delivery date was on the 22nd.
