Cogman, how did they get into a lot of debt with cars being given to them, their housing is free, and they both work? Is this student loan debt? I doubt that. Was there some other crisis such as a difficult pregnancy with no insurance?

Looks like everyone is still laughing for no reason though 😛. Although if you read the page, Samsung doesn't have much to do with SMI anymore. After selling it to Renault, it seems like they've been a bit hands-off, but Renault can use the name until 2010 with no issues.

I remember when I was growing up and my dad had this nifty old Renault sports car. My brother and I used to fight (not physically) over who would get to use the car when we were old enough to drive 😛. It was actually a really nice car inside... manual with full leather interior, etc. It had some issue with the engine, but I can't remember for the life of me what it was. It sat next to a blue Renault... that I think was in an accident. I'm currently trying to find out what type of car it was.

He also had an AMC Eagle that was co-developed by Renault... that thing was kind of interesting too.

Ok, this is just a rant, so I really won't be offended if nobody replies.

Man, my brother in law and sister can be so dumb with their money. They are living with my parents, they are already in debt (a large amount as well), looking for a house, have two cars and a daughter to look after, and what did they do? They went out and bought a new car!!! I can't believe how dumb that is, they claim it is for "better gas milage" but there is no way in hell they are going to be able to save the money from gas milage on the car that they just bought.

What is almost worse is they did not do any research at all, they just went out this Saturday after doing 10 mins of google and came back with a new car! My goodness, what on earth where they thinking? The car they traded in was rarely driven and I doubt this one will be either.

Again, this is just a rant, but man it just makes me mad to see such ignorance, especially when they already have what they need.

i blame your parents. they're cuddling your sibling. they should have never let them move in in the 1st place. or move in w/explicit rules on when they're moving out, and HOW they're going to spend their $. in other words treat them like a child since they seem like it

Combination of things, my brother in law was going to school, they where living on their own for a while, they have a 32' CRT TV, from walmart, and a 42' flat screen LCD from walmart, an XBox 360, a fairly nice computer from dell, Every Sims game ever made, They had a Highspeed internet connection with satalite TV.... Poor Purchasing choices for the most part. They have only had one car given to them and have bought the others. Considering they pretty much all of this while married and have only been married for like a year, it adds up pretty fast.

They have not lived with my parents for a long time, and they are looking for a house to move into. They just moved out of their house and moved here to Idaho (I don't quite understand all their reasons for moving from Utah to Idaho).

They came here on the basis of they where going to only stay until a house becomes available, it has not been a long time that they have been here and housing really is hard to find in a small town. My parents have no cuddled my sibling THAT much and are trying to find a house for them to move into as well.

wait, what were they driving before that makes them think an SUV is getting better gas mileage, a tank?

umm, a bigger SUV I believe, the name slips me for now. (and no, I'm not even going to try and guess this time 😛)

That does not sound like a ton of debt if they make a decent salary.

... They haven't always worked for my parents, considering the husband was willing to take a job for $6/hour, I don't quite see that as decent. As well, the car they bought before the SUV they had was a Mustang, just asked him, don't know what year or whatever but that was what it.

In that case, what are they doing with so much stuff without a decent salary?

Might you mean a Suzuki X-90?

That would be the one, I knew I wasn't too crazy (so I associate computer manufactures with car manufacturers, big deal 🙂). Thanks for digging that up.

clueless = you
I'll admit that there are large areas of cluelessness in me, I'm a bit too nerdy to care about cars THAT much. Maybe some day I'll make a hobby of it.

anyways, thanks for letting me rant guys (and for pointing out my car ignorance, it was worth the good laugh) I guess since there is nothing I can do about it, I can just smile and give my opinion to them when asked.

Dude, I just did the comparo, and those cars get practically identical gas mileage.

1998 Suzuki X-90 RWD

2007 Toyota RAV4 2WD

How do you get married making $6/hr?

but...but...that doesn't even make sense...if you want something that gets better gas mileage and you want to save as much as possible, you get a car, not a SUV!!

but you did say they were stupid, so i guess i shouldn't be surprised.

Many people get married while making minimum wages. Getting cheap with restaurant tips isnt the only way to pay for a wedding.

Sounds like my aunt and uncle. They did stuff like that for years. When they got divorced a few years back they were each $15K in debt.

thats not a whole lot. now if you said 150K in debt thats another story.

Are they freeloading or truely just staying with your parents until they find a suitable house to purchase? Theres a big difference between the two.

They are NOT freeloading, The only reason I posted that info was to give you an Idea that they have other more pressing financial obligations then getting a new used car.

People like that make it possible for people like us to buy cars at or below invoice. My sister-in-law married into money and has wasted more money in ten years on full price cars, cameras and laptops than I make in a year. I know how you feel.
Translation: (1) HomeAppraiser's brother is wealthy and (2) That wealthy family wastes a few grand a year.

Not my brother, my wife's sister?s husband. Actually they separated a few years back and she blew through her $75,000 from the house sale in twelve months! Some was to supplement her $16/hour half time job, but he paid full child support while she was eating out, clubbing and driving her V-8 SUV to get Starbucks everyday.

BestBuy must have LOVED her with all the full price $ony stuff she bought.

Now what ticks me off is that her mother, my mother in law will ask US for money but not the wealthy couple because of her pride. So instead of wasting that money my sister-in-law could have helped out the littlest brother who can't find a job or paid for the mothers car repair.

Icing on the cake: She got her boobs reduced from DD to a small C and now wants implants.
