So two of my friends got married a year and a half ago, and already have their second kid on the way.

They are broke.

Really broke.

Complain about it a lot (which they are GOOD people, and very religious, etc., and its sad that they don't have that much money).

But then why would you have a kid?

UGH!%@&%*&F(*&QHHjfsahejfhskjfhLKJH!!!!!!

EDIT: make this post more ranty

I tell ya, I remember a time when I was about... I was little, I don't know... 4, 5 something like that. We had this old dog that had a litter of puppies. And I walked in the bathroom one day and my Mother was standing there, kneeling down... Dog had a litter of about 8, and my Mother was bending over killing each one of these little puppies in the bathtub. I remember I said 'why?'... She said 'Im just killing what I can't take care of' - Then my momma said to me, she looked at me and she said 'I wish I could do that to you'. - Maybe she, maybe she shoulda.

This is why some giant corporate monopoly (does it really matter which one?) has patented the human genome, and the US patent office was stupid enough to grant them one on it. Mother nature made the human genome (or God/E.T.) and to grant it to a money making beast is completely outrageous.

I had a good link of the legal implications on this matter, but could not find it off hand. They actually will now be able to regulate human birth based on this patent whenever they choose to start doing so. To have a child in the future and not pay them some kind of fee and/or have a contract allowing you to have a child is now a crime.

If I stumble upon the link again, I will repost it here.

We already had this discussion in P&N a few times. Its natural to reproduce. It takes an insane amount of conscious effort not to make babies. Thats why you have an outrageous number of starving people in Africa.

To us, it would make sense to only have one kid and do your best to keep them healthy. They dont see it that way. Their attitude is you should squeeze out as many as possible and hope some of them live.

And despite the fact we clearly have enough people in America already, (and many of those are in orphanages) folks still like popping out new muffins by the millions every sinlge year.

Stupid.
Stupid and wasteful.
But thats the American Way.

there maybe many factors why they do.

many poor really can't afford birth control (well they can. they just spend the money on other worthless things).

they are religious. many hard core religious people think it is there duty to have kids.

many just do not give a shit. more kids=more welfare.

There are obviously a number of people that treat children more as a human right and mandate than some decision of almost eugenic responsibility. In addition, many of these people are the same that prohibit any form of birth control. The idea of a big family is as much a part of their culture as restraint, financial responsibility, etc. are to many Americans.

Fixed

Fixed again, seeing how we are running a huge deficit and passing it on to the future generation.

We have higher taxes now because of it. Our taxes are still paying for it even if we are going in debt doing it.

Why wouldn't you have babies when you and your children are getting a free ride from the government?

This sums up most of the reasons I think. It's a shame our tax dollars are spent like this, but the truth is that I would rather my tax dollars go towards this stuff then have thousands of hungry kids on the streets in my country. Anyone who thinks that this problem will go away if all taxes suddenly stopped funding this stuff is sadly mistaken. At best, it will reduce it a little, but not by much.
