Excellent race-based generalization, dickhead.

where in the hell did race come in????

Dude... step away from the Ebola... 😛
He's taking a cheap shot at some black parents for giving their kids unconventional, non-anglo names ("arbitrary strings of letters"); implying that they are somehow less valid that something like, oh...say...."Johann".

No he's not. He's saying that any name is an arbitrary string of letters. Parents can make up anything they want and use it as a name, what makes that more significant than Latifah or DMX? It has absolutely nothing to do with race. Hell, my last name Karaszewski. That's as arbitrary as any of the "black" names that no one other than yourself has mentioned, and I'm not black.
You might be right. I just assumed the opposite since many rappers are black and I never seem to hear the end of white folks having a laugh regarding the latest "funny" black name they saw or heard.

Not at all... every word in the spoken tongue is simply an arbitraily determined enunciation of various characters.... who decided that 'A' sounds like eh??? why not make it sound like 'oh'??? I think the point WinkOsmosis was making is that the screennames of rappers are no less valid then their birth name... Dwell just apparently has issues with rappers using their 'G' name on-screen... 😛

Blake is an arbitrary string of letters, and so is Fausto, or dwell, or whatever.... unless you ahve some deep-seeded racial relation issues, I don't see where race appeared in Wink's post AT ALL>.

Oh come on... you don't chuckle when you hear "Ol' Dirty Bastard" or "The GZA"??? bah... it's alright to chuckle, or, dare I say it, guffaw loudly at someone's name... who cares if they're black... if I called myself Grand Master Sexay... don't you think people would piss their pants laughing at this white dude...

Sure, but we're talking about mocking given names.....not stage names. Someone's parents put some thought into what their child will be known by for at least the first 18 years of his/her life and it's not right to ridicule that name just because it's unconventional from your personal standpoint.

Hypersensitivity is great, isn't it

jesus man... take off the damn racial blinders...!!

arbitrary does not mean "less real or significant".

bahh... forget it...

Would you really be interested if the movie said it starred James Smith or O'Shea Jackson or maybe even Tracy Marrow?

Heh 🙂 Just ranting, it does not keep me up at night.

lol .. go lay in bed and you'll fall asleep. you need rest now.

when you wake up tomorrow, post your rant about your dream or if you don't remember your dream, rant about not having one.

Kid Rock doesn't use his own name in movies and he isn't ripped for it?

This my friends, is a race motivated thread.

You take romantic comedies and action movies seriously? I thought they were meant for entertainment purposes. Do you think Rock Hudson, Cary Grant, and Kate Hudson were\are their real names?

What does that have to do with race?

I didn't get that feeling at all. I think he's saying why is "Robert" or "David" any really and different than "DMX" or whatever.

That's pretty much the feeling that i got from it. Everything isn't always about race.

*rant* Who cares? *rant*

And I'll bet you, 70% of people know them by their rapper name. I bet only 30% of people you ask would know who Marshall Mathers is, or Earl Simmons, O'Shea Jackson, James Todd Smith, or Calvin Broadus. I bet you only know Marshall Mathers. If you say otherwise i'm sure you looked it up on Google 😛 Go back to Marketing 101 buddy
