*Rant* Why can't rappers used their real names when they make films???

Anyway, why must they use their rap names in film. How can I take a romantic comedy serious if it stars Steve Martin and Queen Latifa. A action movie with Jet Lee and DMX. I know a lot of actors use stage names, but come on! DMX? Ice Cube? Eminem?

Because a movie with P Diddy would attract a bigger audience than one with Sean Combs in it. P Diddy isn't the greatest example as many people know his real name.

Excellent race-based generalization, dickhead.

What the hell does that have to do with race?

He didn't have to be specifically talking about race. Any name is an arbitrary string of letters.

To the original question...

They don't use their real name or their rap name in the movie, so why should they bother using a different name than the one they gained popularity using? If you're watching a movie and every time they call her "Carol", or whatever name her character has, you covert that in your mind to "Queen Latifa", then the movie hasn't done enough to draw you in.

I agree, I think that is stupid too... not only just rappers though. last time I checked, "THE ROCK" was not a real name, either 😛
and he's no rapper... 😀

He's taking a cheap shot at some black parents for giving their kids unconventional, non-anglo names ("arbitrary strings of letters"); implying that they are somehow less valid that something like, oh...say...."Johann".

I didn't get that feeling at all. I think he's saying why is "Robert" or "David" any really and different than "DMX" or whatever.

No he's not. He's saying that any name is an arbitrary string of letters. Parents can make up anything they want and use it as a name, what makes that more significant than Latifah or DMX? It has absolutely nothing to do with race. Hell, my last name Karaszewski. That's as arbitrary as any of the "black" names that no one other than yourself has mentioned, and I'm not black.

Not really since "Johann" is an arbitrary string of letters as well.
