Not in ATOT, but here at work. Everyone is leaving and management doesn't seem to care. In fact, we now have 1 supervisor for every 2 normal employee's. That is direct management, not once you go up. There are rumors that they want to start hiring temporary employee's to complete projects rather than how its currently setup. This somewhat concerns me... we just had another two technical writers quit this week.

My department used to be the smallest by a large margin, now we're the largest by a large margin. Technical Writing groups (of the 3) used to have about 30 writers, we're down to 9 now with the positions simply being closed and not rehiring to fill them. This is just over the course of probably the last year.

Somewhat makes me worried about my own job security. Luckily i'm attending college and will have a degree and be able to have something to fall back on if I can hold onto my job that long.

Wise up. The rats are jumping ship, pretty soon it'll be too late, you'll wake up and notice the water is above your head. Time to get a new job.

Where I work, we're supposed to have a team of 6 people, plus our supervisor. Currently, there's three of us, and our supervisor. We're constantly overloaded with work, slowly falling behind, and have yet to hear of anybody new being hired. Worst part is, for ever three or four people we hire, only one tends to end up staying. Last two we hired lasted only a few weeks, we fired one, the other quit this week.

At least I have job security, they can't afford to lose me at the moment.

i worked for a large company during the 2001 Web crash, they laid off the whole technical writing department.

I don't know how this helps you... sorry.

Yeah, i actually thought about getting a new job. I even posted a thread on it a week or so ago. But the problem is that there are many perks with this job. For one, it is one of hte better paying jobs in my industry, i would really have to find something totally different to do to sustain how much I make now. And even though it's not a lot, it is a considerable amount for someone with no degree. That leads me to my second perk of the job, I really am not crammed with work. As i'm at work now reading ATOT, it is a pretty relaxed atmosphere aside from the latest problem of people leaving and the concern of what the higher up management want to do. I'm able to go home and focus on homework if/when I need to and not having to bring work home with me or working 60 hours a week. I'm working 40 horus per week, regular hours, and go home when 4:30PM roles around everyday.

I'd like to keep the job if I could through college, but as its looking now, there is some doubt there whether that will really happen or not. It is sad, people that have worked here 15 years are now leaving for other jobs.

that is not job security.

Sure it is :)...it does help that I'm good at my job, but seriously, if any one of the three people we have calls out sick or goes on vacation, we're basically screwed. Oh, one guy is going to Vegas for the weekend, so we'll have two such days.
