Had a Hungry-Man Mexican style fiesta microwave dinner today for my short lunch. Beef enchiladas in chili sauce w/ mexican style rice and refried beans. Bonus of cocada pudding.

:disgust:

Hello Customer Service:

I've had several of these for a quick lunch when I actually make it home for an hour during the day. This one was by far the worst of all of them. Being in technical support I can follow the cooking directions very well.

I'll quickly comment: The refried beans were more like a spicy gravy with very few discernible beans contained within. I resorted to eating with a spoon for them, usually the beans are the main item and the sauce is the secondary.

The 3 enchiladas disintegrated when after 4 1/2 minutes I rearranged them, also noting that they were about half the size perhaps (from what I could tell) of the package cover.

Additionally the amount of filling was perhaps a large tablespoon each, the one enchilada that did not fall apart upon rearranging was hard enough from cooking to pickup and eat with my fingers.

I measured 3 heaping tablespoons of rice underneath the disintegrated enchiladas, and despite having coloring of some sort of salsa, it was almost flavorless.

However the bright spot to my meal was the cocada pudding which was very good. I've never had it before so I hope that I'm assessing correctly here and it's not considered terrible if the neighbors' down the street mother could make one to knock it out of the ballpark.

As I mentioned, I've had several of these that the wife picked up recently (I'm not that big of a guy, so not sure what's going on here, fattening me up for winter?). I digress, but it was a very unsatisfying experience and would like to let the company know of it.

I'd appreciate any comments you can offer as to the quality and quantity of food contained within this meal.

Thank you.

I did have to heat the rice on a little plate as it refused to get warm - agreed there.

The TP part of the rant will be later, but not in a zanejohnson manner however, I'm sure everyone will appeciate that.

They were like 5 for $10 at kroger 2 weeks ago I think - this one was by far the worst of 4. I now tremble with fear looking at the buffalo boneless drums w/ cheese fries. I've already told my wife that they are not welcome in our freezer any longer. Unless of course they send me a free coupon for a replacement item, I'll give that a try.

I know stuff doesn't usually look like the package or menu board, but jeez c'mon people. Unappetizing to say the least. I'd never had any of these before, but they looked good on the box.

You mean $2 each, or did you actually buy 5?

Best deals are when the marie calendar ones goes on sale for $2. Those are dayum good with huge portions. Claim Jumper ones are comparable, but the cheapest I've seen them were $2.50 each, which is still a good deal.
Safeway Select makes the best enchilada entrees.

Hungry man just sounds like a pile of gross

QFT, the OP describes pretty much every TV dinner I've ever had. That's one reason I don't eat them.

I used to survive on Hungry Man dinners. And yes, they're pretty fucking disgusting. I don't think I could do it now... Do they still have the "ribs" that can't even call itself ribs because it's just random meat pressed into the shape of ribs?

The Salsbury Steak one they have is pretty good, or at least it use to be. I don't really care for the others. But I know back in high school Salsbury Steak Hungry Man Dinners were the win.

I'm with OCGuy; the boneless white meat fried chicken, with the instant mashed potatoes and 12 dehydrated corn kernels... That was where it was at. They also had the brownie which was perfectly cooked about 6 minutes before the chicken, so either you ended up with a chocolate briquette or a chicken popsicle. Either way, you're in heaven.

She bought 5 at $2 per, thinking she was getting the top of the line micro-meal and I would expect it to be a lot better than the red box $1 everyday ones. I know what you are getting into there.

Beer Battered Chicken with Cheese Fries are really good.

That may have been one of the 5 I tried. I remember cheese fries with something. Maybe when I have more time I'll try the last one in the regular oven perhaps.

Who knows maybe if I get a free coupon I might try the salisbury steak one.

Wait.... you have a wife and you eat microwave dinners?

Your doing it wrong!:|

2 days a week I come home and eat something -- she's a school teacher so her lunch is at school with the kids. I fend for myself for lunch and breakfast, except on the weekends and summers.

I eat them mostly when I'm trying to watch calories, but the Safeway Select and Eating Right (both store brands, the latter is a Lean Cuisine knockoff) are the best out there for the money. I suspect they're either rebranded or at least made in the same factory that makes Stouffers, which is probably the best, but costs about twice as much.
