We ran into some problems with the BreezeBar at TI (Treasure Island), mainly them overcharging us on drinks (doulble shots when single shots were ordered, charging 20% tips when cash tips were given). We first talked to the bar manager, and the SOB gave us shiets about how the Visa we're using looks suspicious (Because it said Simons Gift Visa card on it
rolleye.gif
) and I think because we were Asians. So we decided to take it all the way up to the freaking Casino Shift Manager, we called the CC company and got evidence of the overcharge, have the bastards talk with them, and somehow the charges were magically credited while they're talking to us. The entire time, there was not an apologetic motion or words offered. To make things worse, we are staying at their fcuking hotel for 9 days (room charges came out to around $3600. I will never fcuking stay at Treasure Island again, I don't think they cater to Asians.

That sucks, but I don't think your being Asian had anything to do with it. You've probably noticed that there is a huge representation of Asians in Vegas, so I think the casinos know that it would be unwise to discriminate against them. In fact, most casinos will go to extra lengths to make sure they appeal to their customers from the East, e.g. MGM Grand removing the huge Lion's head that was initially at their main entrance and most casinos omitting the number 4 whenever they can).

Go to Biloxi, MS. I heard we've moved ahead of Atlantic City as far as casinos. Vegas is our next target. :)

You guys are right, there are mostly Asians in Vegas, and the Asians are the ones that contributing the most money to Vegas. This is something that a casino as big as TI should know, but during my stay, there are not many guests that were Asians that stayed there, stupid me. The usual Asians spots are MGM, Mirage (I think TI and Mirage have the same owner), Bellagio, Ceasar, and a few others. I don't know a lot of people that ever stayed at TI.

I did gamble, but just broke even when I left earlier today.

EDIT: Oh, and while the whole of Vegas celebrating Chinese New Year, not TI.

Yup. Owned by MGM. In addition to Treasure Island and Mirage, they also have the Bellagio, New York-New York, Golden Nugget, Boardwalk, and Beau Rivage in Biloxi.

The Beau is ritzy. I've only been there once, and there are places where you have to wear a suit to eat at. We stick to Boomtown and the President.

One would think that with the money being poured like sand into the ever growing pile of casino's out there, that the business of qualified players would be appreciated.I doubt your experience had anything to do with you being asian and a lot more to do with poor hiring and supervision of the bar staff.

Go higher up the chain of management with your complaints.

Interestingly enough, I was watching Travel Channel shows about Vegas earlier today; more then one person interviewed stated that when Vegas casinos were ran by mob customers received much better treatment then nowdays. Go figure.....

I went there last march for the first time. The one thing that impressed me most about Vegas was the whole towns desire to make my stay there as pleasant as possible. No one was having a bad day, no one gave you attitude. It seemed almost spooky the way everyone from the maid to people at the convenience stores seemed to be trying to provide the best service.

If the experience you had, cr4zymofo, was truly indicative of Vegas as a whole, then Vegas IS not the same anymore.

Who in the heck pays for drinks in the casino?? The drinks are free if you are gambling, even nickel slots qualify.

P.S. You should have complained to the Hotel Manager, not the Bar Manager.

What does the Lions head and the number 4 have to do with offending Asians?

I was wondering the same thing... I can assume the lion has something to do with a far east religon or something, but the number 4???

Why the hell should they have to cater to Asians? You got screwed on an experience the same as any other. Why must minorities always throw their damn minority status into these non sequitur arguments?

1) I received bad service
2) I am Asian
3) I received bad service because I am Asian

Right.

The number four has something to do with death in their culture. So no rooms in the 40's or 400's. The bar at the top of the rio ( i forget the name right now) is on the 41st floor but is advertised as being on the 51st.

I agree. "I don't think they cater to Asians." WTF? The original poster offers NO EVIDENCE to support that claim, and is just spreading racist feelings himself.

Stupidity in action. :|

The pronounciation of "4" in chinese ("say") is the same pronunciation of death ("saay") in chinese (cantonese). It's a superstition thing. And as you know, so is anything to do with gambling. You get the correlation..

On a side note, my dad freaked when I picked #44 for my hockey jersey. ;)

Very few provide free drinks when sitting at a bar or in the lounge.

You have to be donating in order to get the free drinks.

They're not offensive, but superstitious things.

As rh71 said, the pronunciation of the number 4 and the word for death are very similar. In Mandarin, they're both pronounced "szh" but just with slightly different inflection.

As for the lion's head thing...when MGM Grand first opened, the main entrance was the mouth of a huge lion's head, and appaarently something about a lion's head is unlucky in Asian culture, and many of MGM's Asian patrons refused to pass through, so the hotel tore the thing down.

I know both things seem a little ridiculous, but orientals are very superstitious.

....not all racists are white rednecks cr4zymofo and people who make the kind of statement that you did are just as racist as the hicks from the deep south, only you tend to display it in a victim mindset. I get sick of people saying "I was discriminated against b/c of my race" in situations where race has nothing to do with it. If you (people with a similar attitude, not just you cra4zymofo) want other people to be color blind maybe you should start with yourselves and your paranoid racist attitude. Oh and I'm sorry they tried to screw you over though, b/c those companies are making so much dang money and then they try to pull in another couple of bucks by overcharging.
