So I bought some of that fresh tuna in the sealed pouches. Supposed to taste better. It sucks bigtime. It gets so compressed that it comes out like a damn brick. The texture ruins any taste of the food at all. Do yourself a favor and stick to buying tuna in the cans.

/end rant

The main problem with tuna in the can is that if you can't get most of the water drained it doesn't taste as good. Drain the water, add a dash of mustard, some mayo, and some Claussen pickles, and you've got a nice easy salad. For fun, serve atop lettuce with italian dressing.. (Hmm, I think I know what I want for dinner now..)

<----------likes tuna straight from the can with crackers or with mayo and pickle relish on any kind of bread. Sometimes eats it in flour tortillas.

yeah i discovered that a while ago... better just to press water out of the can with the lid.

of course... i prefer my tuna either raw with a little wasabi and dark soy or lightly seared atop some cuban black beans and rice.

Getting the water out of the canned tuna is easy. Use a can opener to cut the top loose. Leave the top in the can. Hold over sink with fingers of both hands on bottom of can and thumbs on "lid". Squeeze the lid gently but firmly. Rotate can 60 degrees, repeat. Rotate, repeat until all water is gone.

I think that's why it was packaged under the "Friskies" label in the cat food section of your supermarket....

Heh... ROTC1983 likes to get it in the can.

I usually mix tuna with Mac&Cheese, so the form it comes out doesn't matter much.

You obviously don't have much experience with mixing tuna. The pouches are much nicer and it tastes better. It requires the same amount of work as canned tuna because with canned tuna you have to drain it and all that mess. With pouches you fight with breaking the tuna up while mixing with mayo. It isn't very difficult.

I just think it tastes like 100x better.

Already do that; it's just that sometimes, depending on the consistency of the chunk light tuna in the can, the water doesn't always want to drain completely.

One of my roommates over summer school was really into bodybuilding. All he'd eat for snack food was canned tuna (straight from the can with a fork) and unsalted, unbuttered popcorn. My room smelled like fish 24/7 for seven weeks...I will never look at tuna again...

I do.. and did, as I had tuna for dinner tonight, thanks to this thread. It came out fine, but now my apartment smells like tuna when I go outside and come back in. Blech.
