Yes, you are being stared at. Yes, everyone behind you either has cash or a credit/debit card. Yes, we all wish you'd just freaking go away. Checks are a relic of the past 'grudgingly' accepted everywhere.

Yes, we all have better freaking places to be while you sit there and try to balance your finances at the checkout line.

Yeah - nothing worse than showing up at a customers house and they don't have the check ready. Hello - we told you the price over the phone - WTF is the problem?!?!

Agreed. The least they could do is have the name, date and signature filled out before they're right in front of the cashier. Goddamn unthoughtful people.

While I don't use checks except to make bill payments, I don't mind them much when using proper 'check etiquette.' My main problem is when the person with the check just stands there while the person is ringing him/her up and finally decides to make out his/her check after everything is rung up. If you're going to use an archaic means of payment, BE PREPARED! That is all.

IMO cards are no faster than checks for purchases, waiting for the authorization and then having to sign the receipt. The irony of card users bitching about check writers! Pay CASH for your $4 latte for godssakes!!!

That is so untrue. It takes a lady in the Safeway line like 2 min to fill out her damned check. It took me all of 5 seconds to swipe and punch in numbers, and another 5 for authorization and approval. It's even faster than cash sometimes becuase the checker doesn't have to fumble with cash and change.

I dunno, swiping my card and punching in 4 digits takes me all of 5 seconds.
Total transaction time, 20 seconds.

Yep, I hate these people, and now that stores have forced their prices up to cover everybody who uses credit cards, if you're paying with a cheque and not getting points you're not only buying slower, but you're also spending more money, so tough sh*t cheque-user and haha!

filling in a check and showing your drivers lisecence only takes 10s unless you are incompetent.

not to mention the fvcking debit machine flaking out and taking 30s to connect sometimes, etc.

And debit is more like
5s - give card
5s, the clerk punches in number
5s, client types in number. sometimes they screwup or are half blind
5-30s - authorization

exactly...fvcking pay cash...its easier on everyone

I rarely ever use cash anymore. I pretty much use credit so I can get points. I don't know why people use debit cards tough. If you can get a debit card, might as well get a rewards credit card and you don't have to enter a PIN number.

Credit cards are quite a bit faster than cheques, unless the cheque writer is expeditious, but if they were they'd probably have the brain power to not use a cheque, so the paper is always slower.

I don't use cash, because with cash you get no points. Everything should go under plastic.

Bad credit and/or too stupid to know what they're missing out on.

cash is faster, except when the stupid teller runs out of singles and needs to waste time going in the back to get more money to refill her drawer.

Very few places around here require you to sign your slip if the purchase is food or beverage and > 10 dollars. Debit is faster because you enter a PIN and I've never seen authorization take longer than 5-10 seconds unless you are at Jim Bob's Bait and Gas.

Don't know how it is in Canada, but around here checks are run through teletech or another check authorization service, and most people have to put their phone number on the check and DL number, and no one who writes a check knows their DL number because they are brain dead morons.

Okay, I gotcha.
I haven't actually seen anyone use a check in a store for years now, most don't even accept them anymore.
But when they did use them, All I remember is once piece of govn't ID, iirc.

Well, most people admire the fine calligraphy on my checks. It rarely takes me more than a few minutes to find the pen, attach the nib, and make out the check, unless I'm at the Pittsburgh Steakhouse and Rib Emporium #5 (that one takes a bit longer since the name is so long).

Anti-calligraphites! ;)
