seriously, they don't seem to want to learn or listen to the OP at all and you want him to teach them Linux?

What's to teach? Power on the PC have it automatically log into an x-session with an icon on the desktop for Open Office and an Icon for Firefox. No anti-virus necessary.


If you can get away with that more power to you, but in his case they will say - "why did you put that piece of crap on my computer, i can't load program xyz, why wont this hunting game from wallmart work on my computer any longer, where are my smiley faces etc etc etc..."
 
Serously people, the problem at hand isn't helping the OP fix his in-laws' computers... it's helping him get out of the position where he's fixing his in-laws' computers.
