<RANT> Stupidity in Hot Deals?

Why is it that every single time an online retailer has some blindingly obvious misprice on their site every slackjaw in Hot Deals jumps on it and posts on and on about how their fingers are crossed cuz they got a confirmation email?

There's a 200 post thread today about a $26 Creative Jukebox 6GB... Do they REALLY think that they're going to get something out of this or do they just have too much time on their hands?

I'm not trying to diss Hot Deals people, I originally joined the forums for that aspect, but it's getting pretty ridiculous... They'll even seriosuly try to buy mobos listed for $0 - it's sad...

I am curious to see if any of you have actually ever received a "Hot Deal" on an obvious misprice like this Jukebox... Some people claim to get gift certificates out of it but I don't buy it... Maybe a couple of people did a year ago and now everyone thinks that's what they'll get too...

At first retailers felt obligated to give out freebies and GCs, but nowadays they've gotten smarter and either don't give it to you, or point you to a quote of their terms of agreement where they don't have to give it to you.

I rarely frequent that forum either but I do know for certain that one of the vendors gave gift certificates for misprices. It was like 10 bucks or something that they sent my cousin. I personally don't order any of those ridiculous misprices since it doesn't seem like it'll pan out. However, as far as having too much time on their hands, I don't know, they could come to this forum and post. That'd be another great use of time

I used to be a HotDeals junkie and remember getting in on some pretty sweet deals... even mis-priced items. But that was the exception and not the rule.

Bigd,

I completely understand your sentiments, and agree. But posting "You're all idiots" in the thread was immature and inflammatory.

Besides, you might get attacked by a Ferengii warship if you make them mad enough. ;)

You're absolutely right I took that part out and I apologize

They didn't even notice what I said - there's about 40 posts after mine of people discussing how much markup they'll sell their "extra" ones for to people who "missed out" LOL

Its the Ferengi way...

I don't mind them trying to buy a mis-priced item - its worth a shot, I suppose. What pisses me off is:

1) When after the orders are cancelled they cry "Lawsuit!".
2) When they try to buy 100s of them, ruining it for others
3) When they buy all of something and then jack up the resale price for fellow board members... :|

Ah well, there is no honor among thieves...

I think the wrost part of pricing erros like that is when people try to buy tons of the stuff to resell and then get mad when the company does not honor the error.

Just curious, but why do you care so much? I can understand where you're coming from on some of the issues you brought up, but why get so angry?

This phenomenon is similar to a second marriage. The triumph of hope over experience.

UPDATE:

The Lord God Emporer of Ferengii has now entered the thread. Check out page 6 - CheapoMan wants to sell "options" for a nonrefundable $25. If they come in, you get to buy it for $175 total - if not, you're out $25.

I thought I had seen it all. The definition of SCUMBAG has now officially been redefined. LMAO.

Your weapons are useless against CheapoMan, Red Dawn. His greed will suck your assets like a 220 volt Hoover.

Stroke his ears, and you just MIGHT have a chance...

Don't forget the morons that call the csr's.. Ferengi is a little too generous if you ask me because they are smarter than most of the Hot Deal's people who do things like that..

i enjoyed the post someone made about the goods kmart imports from china. like kmart's going to ditch a huge chunk of their inventory and slash prices up to 95%(!) in a hasty effort to get rid of it all.

well, I've only ordered one thing from hot deals,
but you gotta note that sometimes they honor mispricing.
I remember long time ago when the Nomad first came out. Original price was $699 and some place mispriced for $99 and honored the price to anyone who just ordered 1.

but it is annoying to see a PC listed at $0.99 and people jumping on it.

I dunno David, maybe it's because I'm a Hot Deal seeker myself and I like to think that we are examples of educated consumers who use some sort of skill to save their hard-earned money...

These people on the other hand are Neandersheep out to exploit companies and get something for nothing... I was curious if other people shared my opinion...

BTW, what's a Ferengi? Some Star Trek thing?
