wtf is with these people who drive a beat up 1971 buick with no interior with 20" spinners?

and they always have a tape deck with a cd/cassete adapter, blown factory speakers, and a 10000 watt amp pushing 4 15" subs in the back...and nothing done for power...headlights dimming, alternator begging for mercy...

poor budgeting?
no priorites?
just plain stupidity?
trying to emulate some gangster rapper?

i think #4 is the most likely...50 cent has them so you have to as well...meanwhile, you cant afford to put gas in your car so you hafta spin the spinners by hand, you live in a 1 bedroom shack with a dirt yard, while your kids starve...but i got dubs that spin!

Yeah i totally agree with you. except i look at it a different way, its comic relief for me. It is so absolutley rediculous to me when people "pimp" out a POS. Sometimes i have to bite my tongue, out of fear that they will see me laughing at them.

I also love seeing cars such as a Ford Taurus, with a HUGE spoiler on the back, ahh, now that is COOL! or even a mini-van..

This is the USA. If you want spinners on a hooptie then more power to you. Just like the kids who self install body kits on old imports and don't have the money to paint the car. When you don't have much, sometimes one small thing can make you feel good about yourself. You shouldnt judge them too harshly.

Heh... you just reminded me of one of my buddies. He doesn't have fancy rims, just what came with his $200 car. All his stereo stuff is stuff that was given to him or that he's had for at least fifteen years. He pulled out the back seat and laid down his old floorstanding Cerwin Vegas there, and had computer speakers as his fronts (until they blew out :p). The deck itself was secured on some kinda gooseneck... it was a great security mechanism, because any thief that bothered looking would think "there's no way I'm gonna eff with that mess."
He killed his alternator with a Nelly CD before he found out a capacitor would have done him some good--except he was confused because his idiot friends that are "into" car audio told him he needed a "Ferret". It was months before I figured out the crankheads were talking about a 1 farad capacitor.

I agree. Why do people feel the need to complain about stupid crap like this? Your an idiot.

Like my friend the other day, "why do people drive around with a blue door when the rest of the car is white.?" Maybe because they got into an accident and could ONLY afford the door and didn't have the money to paint it. Maybe these people YOU see had some rims on a previous car, sold it or totaled it, and didn't have the money for another nice car. Does that mean they don't have the right to use their old rims?

Let people do what they want. If they wanna rice out their ride, thats their purrogative, if they want to put 2000$ rims on a 200$, yet again its their choice.

People around here need to start paying more attention to their own lives rather then b1tchin and moanin about everyone else's. You have no life. At all.

that is a very ignorant comment...sure there are people who take advantage of government aid, but saying such things makes your ignorance shine right through.

Interesting. I might have killed my alternator too, due to overload, from my AC-DC inverter and my computer speakers and CD player setup. (I would have interpreted a "ferret" to mean a "ferrite" myself though.) Care to elaborate on how too much power draw can kill an alternator though? I'm curious if that's what actually did it in my case. I thought that an alternator was basically just a generator, is there more to it than that? Would a large cap help?

best thing to do is replace the big 3 wires under your hood with 0 guage, and get a good battery...capacitors are really just band-aids...although a couple farads a few inches from your amp never hurt anyone ;)

You're right. I know some people like that, they blow their check the first week, spending it on smokes and drugs, and wouldn't have the foresight to save enough to be able to afford $2K rims at all. (They hit the food pantry and Salvation Army for dinner after the first week. Oh yeah, they don't go to the grocery store and buy their own food "because it's too expensive". So they order $15 take-out instead, until the money's gone. In case you're wondering, no, they're not exactly PhD's either.)

So in that case, perhaps the guys that are sporting $2K rims on their beaters, are the ones actually working for a living, trying to make things a little better for themselves. (The better question then becomes, are they employed in a legal enterprise..)

I saw some kid driving an old 240sx today with chrome 5 spoke rims, something like 17 inches. His car sounded awful and I gagged as I walked through his exhaust fumes.
