RANT: Should I get rid of Verizon DSL?

I have had Verizon DSL since late August (about 8 weeks), and in that time, my service has had downtime totaling 2 weeks.

My last outage started last Thursday, and Verizon says they cannot get a technician to diagnose and fix the problem until Monday. I currently have no Internet access at home.

For $30/month I expect better service. I do not even think I should be paying the full $30/month, seeing as I am getting no service at all 25% of the time. :disgust:

What do you think? I think Verizon DSL should get the boot from my apartment!

I had problems in the beginning too, but they got sorted out after about a month or two...and for the last two years, they haven't really ever gone down. Let them try and fix it; their newsgroup service is worth the $30/month alone :)

They are a pain the a** if you have problems. I switched from cable to them because of the cost. Took many phone calls and many atttempts to get someone to my house. Once you get this stuff fixed it will be ok.

You can get credit for the downtime, just ask for it. Also make sure you test the bandwidth after they fix your problems. www.bandwidth.com and verizon has a page to test(don't have the link with me. Use both sites so you have confidence in the numbers.

Good luck:)

Talk to someone higher up at the company. I've always been able to get verizon to get a tech onsite within 48 hours if any of our customers have a problem.

Is cable internet available where you live, and if so, have you tried it?

two weeks?!?! holy crap!

the worst i had it was a week something, but that was because their alleged "billing" department didn't put in a switch for a move and i had to call back a few times, and they said "we have no move request on file."

I have verizon DSL and it never goes out. I guess it depends on where you are.

I had Verizon DSL known as Hell Atlantic back then for 1 1/2 years. At one point, my line was down 6 weeks straight. It was such a hassle to get through to them that I gave up. They had no idea what was wrong and would not help me. At one point, customer satisfaction called me to get my feedback on how well they resolved my problem. After telling them they never fixed my problem, they said they would look into it. Sure enough, nothing happened.

Miraculously, my line lit up one day and started working but I dumped them ASAP for Road Runner.

I had that sort of problem with them also. I demanded a lot of money back and ended-up getting almost a half year's worth off my bill after a few small incidents and one large incident of a whole month of downtime. I jumped ship shortly after my one-year requirement expired.

Right, free verison news server....
Comcast also gives you a free account on Giganews, but with a limit of only 1 gig a month.

^ What he said. Sometimes you would get an IP from a Server that's further away from you than your optimal one, and I think their lease are about three days. So if you reset the router, there is a chance that you might get your old DHCP server to give you an IP (if it's not down).
