RANT: Server root

<rant>

Why is the server root by default different in just about every single linux distribution out there?

Working with FreeBSD, slackware, and gentoo at the same time. Loss of time trying to find the damn location.

You do realize of course that FreeBSD isn't Linux.

Just being pedantic.

yes i know that.

but the server root is also different in FreeBSD.

I was really comparing slackware with gentoo when talking about the diffferent linux distros

Slackware is closer to BSD in it's file structure. Its cool that way.

maybe in it's file structure...but that's about it.

I was working on a project in slackware. I asked my boss if I could just switch over to freebsd since it was much nicer to work with.

What sucks about slackware is that they don't use the most current version of things (couldn't even get php 5.0.3 installed as a module on it, took 5 mins in freebsd

cd /usr/ports/www/mod_php5/
make install

done. why can't slackware be that easy?
