Rant/PSA: Civic kiddies - you cannot 'smoke' a motorcycle off the line. Stop Trying.

(Pointless rant below! You've been warned!)

I don't know if any of them read ATOT, but just in case, here goes:

1) I don't care how large of a muffler, or how premium of an air filter you have in your 104 hp Civic... you cannot beat 99% of the motorcycles out there off the line. Its just simple physics, kids.

2) I'm tired of sitting at lights and having you guys pull up beside me and gun your engine (veeeeem, veeeeeeem!). I'm not interested. I don't want a ticket and the insurance hell that brings, and if I take all you kids up on the challenge I'm bound to get caught sooner or later.

3) So when I don't bother, and at the green instead I drive off normally while you squeal your fat little tires and redline that tiny 4-banger in order to out-accelerate my bike. You do realize I'm opening the throttle a tiny fraction of what it can do, right? That I'm choosing to be smart in not getting ticketed and risking my neck?

4) So when you do pull ahead of my bike and take off into the distance on the 35mph residential street we are on, you are NOT allowed to later tell your fellow idiot buddies how you "totally smoked a bike off the line!!!!".

Thank you, that is all.

:p

LOL, I don't know why you are ranting on this site, 99% of ATOT'ers feel the same way so you aren't going to get anything by complaining to us except maybe some sympathy from a few others.

Also, I find it funny that I just got a new RX8 and now it seems WAY more people are trying to race my car everywhere. When I drive my corolla, it's almost non-existant with people revving engines next to mine at a stop. But in my RX8, it seems like everyone and their grandma has something to "prove" next to my car. I don't get it either.

Anyone who thinks anything on 4 wheels can outstrip anything on two is just clueless.

There is a HUGE weight difference and almost no power difference (depending on the car and bike of course - speaking generally). Sorry, but the car, unless it's an elite level Lotus or Bugatti or something like that, hasn't a prayer.

A car can win easily by leaving the line early and running over the motorcyclist...

Haha. I remember one night pulling up to a stop at an intersection in my RSX-S when this guy in a sport bike pulled up along side me. He looked over at me and started revving his engine. Normally I would just ignore him, but that night I decided to rev my engine in response. The light went green and I got a fair jump on him off the line. He opened up the throttle and flew by me. At the next light we stopped next to each other again. I looked over at him with a big smile on my face and nodded in his direction, to which he nodded back.

:D

EDIT: I should add that I knew I didn't have a chance ... just wanted to have a little fun.

I worked at a warehouse in which one of my co-workers had one. When our shift ended there were about 400 cars leaving, most of which making a right at the exit. There was another turnoff about 1/4 mile up the road and I bet he would pass about 20 cars before he hit that intersection.

I raced one of those Harley's and beat him. The guy got pissed at me, too. So I beat him again. But a Harley isn't a sportsbike.

HumblePie makes a good point - its only like this on my bike. So many of them look for anything to 'conquer' while driving around.

For some reason they never challenge my 1996 purple Lumina (aka the "Ugly Sofa on Wheels"). :D

LOL

I totally agree. There is a chance they could beat an older Indian or a full size Harley, like a Heritage Softtail or something, but definitely not a Jap bike. Anything over 600 will smoke any ricer off the line and in the long run.

Car?

Some Harleys are pretty tame in terms of acceleration.

veeeeem, veeeeeeem!

Preach on, brother !! I responded to a ricer in another thread as such about these ricerunners sounding like a goat in heat, but I like your veeeem veeeem just as much. Lord knows, you can't put any sense into their heads ... they know it all.

I say we fire all elected officials and replace them with ricerunner driving teenagers. They know everything, after all. Should I post that in P & N instead ???
