RANT: Personal Computers aren't, our issues to deal with

Why do some of these motherfuckers think it's okay to ask if we can fix their personal computer or laptop on company time or off time.

Some of the more frequently asked questions:

I have a virus can you remove it ?
No motherfucker I won't remove it, you can remove it yourself or take it to a shop.

Do you know how I got it ?
How would I know how you got it ? Your dumb ass more than likely downloaded something off the net to get it.

Can you take a look at it when you have time ?
No I won't take a look at it when I have time.
The last thing any one of us who work in IT wants to do is work on computers on our off time.

My internet wireless does not work at home, do you know what the problem is ?
How would I know what your problem would be ? Call your local ISP for help.

There comes a point where the line has to be drawn.
I drew mine today~ so sick of dealing with their personal computer POS as favors
where they think I would jump at the chance to fix their pc problems.

why would an ISP assist a person with a Wireless issue? they should call their Router Manufacturer for assistance with that.

Screw that shit, we don't want them here.

I usually just say "I can take a look, but it will be $[x] per hour of my time, with a minimum time of 2 hours". If it's friends / family I only charge $25 / hour, if it's coworkers than that figure goes higher.

I will remember this when you ask me to come fix your central air.

Its about doing favors for mates, if they arent your mates tell them upfront that you charge a fee. If they are your mates fix their pc, and next time you have a problem with say, your central air you ask your mate to come have a look, who should gladly do it for free, cause you helped him out with his lappy

I dunno, i reckon that somtimes its not what you know, but who you know. I have an It mate that is always bugging me to do welding jobs and i dont mind doing it, cause when my pc crashed at 7pm the other night he was only too happy to return the favor.

once again... we non-IT people don't care about your whiney, bitchy little rants. You're paid to fix my computers. Now dance, monkey.

At least you're not a programmer. Every person who knows I'm a computer programmer, but doesn't know what that actually entails tells other people I'm a technician that can probably fix their computer woes.

How does that work out? "Alright dad, I updated windows for you, and put on some free anti virus software. Be careful what you click on when surfing. The updates took a little time to download so you came in just over an hour, but what the hell, you are family, so that will be $25."
