Why is it that with so many electronic methods of payment available I go in to a convenience store or grocery store and end up waiting 10 extra minutes for some slow ass to pull out their check book and write a damn check. Hello! Its 2007, get with the frickin program! Other than maybe paying bills I see no reason for a person to use checks at all. They are slow, can bounce (ACH FTW) and just generally annoy me.

/end rant

Quite a few of my relatives still practice check writing in stores/restaurants(me included when it comes to mailing bills).

I havn't paid anything with a paper check in a long time ... I bought a single box of checks about 3 years ago & I still have 90% of them left.

I still use them to aggrivate the people behind me in line since they think their time is more omportant than mine.

So you're forced to wait an extra 30 seconds every other time you go to a convenience store? Can't say I'm really empathizing with you over this. Weak rant.

I got a single box of checks (300) when I turned 18 and have used about half of them in 5.5 years. I only use checks for places that don't take credit and require large sums of money (loan payments, rent, utilities, etc.).

With that said, I'm not in such a hurry that an extra few minutes a day bothers me. Slow down and enjoy life - even waiting in line at a convenience store.

I give it a 0/10.

I usually have mine filled out in advance. In fact it takes me less time to write in the amount than it does for someone to swipe their card eight times and push buttons for a good 30 seconds.

Maybe I'll start a rant thread about people with CC/Debit cards who waste MY time.

I still use them at stores for certain reasons, and guess what I'll continue to because whiny little brats like you can't learn to be patient.

Why do you think they think their time is more important than yours? They want you to stop wasting YOUR time as well as theirs.

I've seen some stores with cash registers that will automatically make-out the check using the built-in printer, all that is needed is the person's signature.

That said, take a pill and leave home earlier. When you're 50, someone will be ranting because they had to wait an extra 20 seconds for you to pay with an ancient debit card instead of the implanted payment chips that all the young hip people use to sprint through the check-out.

I work part-time at a supermarket as a cashier. I can honestly say that completing transactions with credit/debit can be a hell of a lot more annoying than one with a check. I'm not saying this happens all the time, but generally the people that have credit or debit cards don't know how to use them and wind up taking more time than those who just make out a check and let me put it through the reader/printer.

Now what's really irritating, is someone who has to present the clerk 5 different credit cards, til they find one that isn't maxxed. That wastes my time.

Trust me it is just as embarrassing for them as it is annoying to you (mind you if it is at the grocery store and buying items they need).
