One thing that pisses me off are forums with pansies that can't handle a little argument and a little flaming. Take for instance www.studentdoctor.net. It is filled with the most politically correct, do-no-wrong bunch of whiny babies on the internet. Every other post is "people don't understand how hard it is" or "hey poster X, you shouldn't say that because it makes you look bad to us" or "free healthcare to everyone, because that is good and just!" or "please tell me what my chances are" which is immediately followed by "don't worry you'll do fine, you're super!"
Whenever someone brings up a controversial topic they are all like "oh no, i'm staying out of this one!" or "hey why are you bringing up such a controversial topic?"
Whenever someone challenges the politically correct viewpoint, they are like "oh why must you be like that, people won't like you if you think like that."
These people think they have the hardest lives in the world! "Oh no, my horrible life... my middle-upper class parents don't understand how difficult it is to APPLY to medical school. Everyone, please give me a hug."
The extent of their political reasoning is "Bush is dumb. Free healthcare to everyone. I want to dedicate my life to selfless service for the benefit of all mankind. I don't care if I never get paid a penny for doing it, as long as I do what I love!"
I've heard that the average IQ of physicians is 120 or so. If that's true, either the vast majority of these people will be rejected, or they are idiot savants.
Then there are the moral fascists. They try to pretend to be non-judgmental and non-moralistic, but somehow telling people how to think and act don't fall into those categories. They try to disguise it, saying something like "You seem to be angry, you don't want to sound angry do you?" Which normal people would say, "Shut the hell up, we don't need to listen to your ignorant rant." But nooooooooooo they can't just say what they think, they have to tell you how you should think too! I know doctors are supposed to be part healthcare dude and part counselor, but I really wish these stupid premeds stop going around telling people how to act and think.
PRAISE: I like ATOT because you can flame the hell out of people and that's fine. There's no pretense to the flaming, no disguising it as compassionate wisdom passed down from one to another. I also like how there are both liberals and conservatives who fire back and forth, often reaching a level of sophistication not found at most forums.
