I can't speak for other Samsung products, but their stand alone BD players had a HORRIBLE reputation. Just plain junk. They may have improved lately, but I'd say it's a day late, dollar short. I'd never buy a Samsung BD player.

Their LCD TV's a few years ago had TWO generations of faulty power supplies. It wasn't a matter of IF it would fail, but WHEN it would fail. Samsung also didn't do jack squat about it until a class action lawsuit held their feet to the fire and forced them to repair the defective sets. This is not the type of company I'd like to reward with repeat business. A defective set I can understand. But a whole LINE of sets and for 2 generations? No, I'm not giving them a pass for that. And again, not the type of business I'm going to support. Definitely not one I'd trust when buying a few thousand dollar HDTV.

Just me two cents.

Well, you could argue that sure, where Samsung was a few years ago was where Sony & other Japanese makes with good reps now were in the late 70's and early 80's...

...but you could also argue that it's where they will be again in a few years time, while Samsung is on the reverse trajectory :sneaky:

I think it's down to individual bad luck. I never had Samsung stuff fail horribly on me, but I had problems with other stuff others swore by :p

There is at least one universal exception though (one I can think of right away): IBM HDDs, 20 or 40GB (can't remember anymore) version, made in Hungary :D Anyone remembers that? I had three replaced within one year or so, and so has everyone else and their mother :D The store I was buying from at that time just completely stopped doing any diagnostics whatsoever at some point and simply replaced everything right away.

Yes, and they were nicknamed "IBM Deathstars."

I've had a couple of Samsung HD's fail without any prior S.M.A.R.T. warning but all in all, Samsung HD's have been more reliable than other brands for me.

Back in the 90's Samsung had the absolute worst picture tubes. I cannot tell you how many we pulled out of defective monitors. If it came in with a dim picture odds are it was a bad Samsung picture tube.

Incoming news: Back in the 90's nothing of any note was made in China. It's like someone in the 80's saying Sony made junk in the 60's. Time to smell the coffee :p

I got two Samsung 1TB hard drives. Still using and working... So.... Hope they don't crap out. Hard Drives have warranty for a reason. Maybe you wouldn't be so mad if had a backup of your data?

Can happen to anyone at any time! Backup your data! :)
