FVCK !! It wasn't his house to begin with.

Back in 1990....someone owe my mom $15K and she didn't have the money so she gave my mom the equity in the house since she was moving away.
So my mom didn't want to be responsible for the motgage and stuff so she let my brother take it over......he have yet to pay back the $15K. The cost of the house was $82K.

Throughout the years...it was mainly occupied by me and the sisters paying rents, etc..

Fast forward to now.
My mom wanted him to sell it to me for $120K.
He told her more like $140-150K.
I was thinking more like $135-$140K.

So I get approved and everything and now he doesn't want to sell it anymore.
He was to gain $50K++ from really doing nothing through the yrs.

No, hes really a good guy but damm, now I have to look for other alternatives.

This really depends on the value of the house. It sounds like the OP wants his brother to take a $5k hit. That's a lot of change.

Really a good guy? No offense, but anyone who would sell out their own flesh and blood is not good...only filth.

My family would never EVER argue about money...or anything related to money whatsoever. We just love/respect each other enough where issues like this never come up.

Personally(IMHO)....The value of the house is not the biggest criteria here.
Hes bound to profit $50K++ from never having to put the original equity into the house.

I realize money is money but hes is making alot of money here and I am his brother

I really don't know the true value of the house of the nut the last house sold in this exact neighborhood sold for $152K in Dec 2004 but it had a pool and I think looks a tad better.

I told him I was thinking of $135-$140K but he never did tell me what he wanted to sell it to me for.
If he just tell me the price instead of sidestepping the subject....maybe we can come to an agreement.

I went through the hassle of getting approved and everything.
I'm never going to be able to afford a house on my own.

Yes he does.
Actually its really his wife thats breaking this deal.

I didn't hear this from him but through my mom.
My mom said the wife doesn't want to sell the house because she wants the monthly income from the house.

HUh ???? currently me and my sister lives here and between us, we cover the monthly mortgage.....hows are they getting any income from the house ??? Getting equity..yeah....INCOME....NO.

It makes no sense what so ever....if he sells me the house, hes gonna get like $100K from this...$50K profit + $50K equity through the yrs.

Like you said, start looking for alternatives.

Start looking at houses, tell them you're moving out.

See what kinda income they get out of an empty house.

I actually thought of that when I got MAD but its so cheap to live here.
I pay $300 and my sister pays $350 and thats pretty much the mortgage.
Not only we cover the mortgage, we take care of the house as oppose if it was occupied by strangers.

Yep.

I'm not saying that CTrain's brother is right, but the brother has a family and as a family man, his family should come 1st IMO :)

money is money, family or not
Yeah, that!

Is this in California, Florida or where?

Business is business. I don't care if it's a family member.

Sorry, I'm kinda slow. I don't really understand why this is up to your brother. I know technically the house is under your brother's name, but really he didn't do anything for it. I could understand if maybe he had come up with the downpayment with his own money or something, but the house was basically handed over to him, and you and your sister were helping him pay the mortgage by paying rent. Unless I'm completely misunderstading it, then sorry.

To me it's similar to a situation where the family business was handed down to siblings. The business would go under somebody's name, but it would really be all of the siblings who run and control the business.

To me this seems very wrong.

If the title is in his brother?s name then he has the sole right to decide what to do with it even if he is being an ass about the circumstances of the situation.

Many family businesses that grow to a point and have to be passed on are incorporated and the family members that are to have a stake in it are sold (given) portions of the ownership that way no single person has absolute control of the company.

That makes it hard for one asshole to screw everyone else without harming themselves.
