*Rant* My Comp Died :(

Today is a bad day indeed... I was getting ready for work I sat down at my comp to respond to an IM and my comp resets itself... After it starts rebooting and running scandisk it froze in the middle of the scandisk, I waited 10 minutes and didn't respond so i did a hard reboot and after that It will not reboot. It just sits there with a blank screen making beeping noises... I cannot access my bios or anything. I think my mobo died or something. I'm working on my ancient laptop and its horrible, so slow I miss the Xp Power!!!

If it was the CPU then I doubt he would be getting any beeping. I know, I've killed an Athlon before. No CPU means no processing of the beeping noises.

What are the lengths and intervals of the beeping? I think steady lengthy beeping means bad or no memory. Three short beeps could mean bad or no video.

Most time my computer "died" it was the power supply.

my box recently wouldn't power up after i bumped a hard drive with my case open. I unplugged the power supply from my box, with no luck. Then i unplugged the memory, popped it back in, rebooted, and it was back to normal.

Well I just found out what died on my computer, it wasn't the mobo it was the Memory.. Temporarily using some old kingston value ram I had stashed away in the closet until I can get another stick of crucial ram to replace my old one that died on me..

Good call bmacd, I was going to make the same suggestion. Try different slots and reseating your better sticks, they may be good.
