This sad tale started Monday just before 2:00 PM when I got home from work and my cable-modem was offline. I powercycled the modem to see if it was something simple. Nope, that wasn't it. So I called up my ISP (Rogers Cable) to see if they were having any outages in my area. I was told there were no outages here. Hmmm, interesting I thought. I was also told that my modem was the only one out. So I booked a technician to come over today to see what was the cause.
As a test I connected it to my TV and got no channels at all. Nothing. I called the local number for my cable company (Rogers Cable) and verified that my account was fine and no disconnect order was given.
The tech came over about a half hour ago checked the connections. My liine had -13 on their meter which basically meant no signal was getting through. I suggested we check the cableroom in my apt building. So when we checked it out, lo and behold someone had an identical filtre as mine (the ones they use for us are very unique). So he calls in to verify whether their setup is legit. Nope, it wasn't. That was my filtre and my service going to apt 303. So he cut their line off and reconnected mine. Before he left he went a filed a report with Rogers about it and then informed my Super as well.
The cable room is locked and requires a special key to get in. Unfortunately the key is stored in a secured box, but you can use a vendors key to open it.
Now everything is back to normal.
