I cannot tell you how annoying this is.

Every single time my mother or sister uses the lawn mower they do the following:

1. Check the oil
2. Say it is too low (when it isn't)
3. Ask my father or I if they can add 10W-20, 10W-30, 5W-20 etc...
4. I respond "No, it is too thin"; they get pissed off and add it anyway.

Why is this so hard to understand. The lawn mower does not need filled up with oil every single time it is run!! They fill it up with Oil more than they do with gas! Then when they ask me what to put in it i say "It doesn't need it". Then they go and do their own thing anyway. I guess this is a girl sort of thing but "Why ask us guys if you aren't going to listen?!"

I then tell them we need SAE 30 oil for the lawn mower, and i say that we dont have any. So they add 10W or 5W anyway!!

Yes, i do know this wont HURT the lawnmower, but at the same time it isn't the best for it.

Additionally, they make me go out and check the oil everytime they do this, and it is always just fine.

So they put oil in it every time, but every time you check it the level is fine? Make sense of that...

I have mowed the lawn for the past 7 years. And i still do a lot of it. However my parents give me a bit of a break as i have had a job for the past 1.5 years.

If it says rant, it isn't a parody thread.

It gets used. When i say fine, i mean there is no need to add more. It is already nice and full; However they fill it up past the full mark.

Additionally when i say everytime it is a bit of an exageration. Of course not everytime because they dont do the lawn every time, so more like every 3 or 4 lawn mowes it makes it back down to normal levels.

Just curious. What kind of lawnmower needs oil that frequently. I check and fill once in the spring, thats good enough.

you should be using 10w-30 or 10w-40 for your lawnmower and nothing else. anyway, if it needs oil more than once every few months then something is wrong with it. it is probably leaking it very slowly because they overfilled it and broke a gasket or seal.

Lol that's what came into my head...

One of my ex ex's many years ago didn't have a clue. She didn't know that petrol was burnt or even that the exhaust pipe went to the engine, let alone what oil was for. She was driving once and lost concentration. The road curved and she found herself going towards a wall. instead of swerving the screamed and put her hands up to her face (ie took them off the wheel)...

She was a tool but hot as. Tight too. These days personality is more imporant than looks to me.

I think you're lucky that your women actually check the oil. Buy a big fmily-pack of the correct oil and let them fill it up to their heart's content.

You should be happy that your mom & sister mow the lawn!

I'm the only one that mows the lawn! Not by choice either, but I don't mind so much. Also it doesn't help that I dont have any sisters or brothers.

I've been doing it for years...and only change the oil like once a season on a John Deere riding mower....Overfilling it is bad....

Maybe women just have a thing about lubrication...

That is very true!

Normally it is my dad and i, but when they do this problem happens.

THe thing is it doesn't need oil that much. It normally fill it once before the first mow and then maybe add a touch 3/4 of the way through. They add it like every time they mow the lawn, which in turn give it too much oil.

As for a problem with the lawnmower... it is beyond problem. If i showed pictures you would simply laugh. This is a IIRC 17 year old lawn mower. Briggs And Strayton. I dont know what my dad is thinking, but i swear we have spent much more than the lawn mower is worth fixing it. To start it we have to jam a metal piece of pipe between (The metal pull down bar is broken). Additionally the throttle is broken so we just wiggle it a little to get it to work at full speed. The blad is dull enough that i could probably stick my hand under there and it would only take a chunk out. The two back wheels were already replaced because they simply broke off. THe one positive thing is the motor. I can start that lawnmower ANYWHERE at any time. It just keeps on chugging away. Maybe ill include a pic of it later.

I think my dad has finally admitted defeat, he said when a lawnmower of his choosing goes on sale we will get it.

I'm so damn happy I am really allergic to grass! All my friends had to cut their grass, but if I tried to do it, I would be sitting on the couch for a day or so wheezing like hell.

When our grass gets cut, even inside the house with the AC on, I wheeze and feel like crap for an hour or two..

Christmas trees are even worse. After a couple of hours being around one, I feel so bad it's like I have the flu. It takes 2 hours to go sour, and about 6 to recover.
