[RANT] I'm Not Telling The Truth Anymore

Sometimes, I buy things because they are such a hot price and sell them locally.

For example, I'll buy a Harddrive for $80, it costs $200 retail...
I go and sell it for $100-120.

When I deliver, I'm always asked with a, "how much did you get it for?"
I answer with a honest - "it's $200 before rebate - coupon - rebate makes it $80"
Then I get a - "give it to me for $85 then, you're still making money"
or a "I'm being ripped off" attitude.

As I'm writing this.. I kind of see their side too. But they are still getting it for lower than retail, I'm happy from making money, the store I bought it from is happy. Anyways... this is my rant.

I think from now on.. I'm just going to say "I don't know, I got it as a gift"

Talk to them about opportunity costs, your time, oustanding rebates etc. You can honestly say your cost is about $130.00 after time and other costs just listed.

Screw that... I'm not telling the truth about MY purchase price if I intend to make a set profit off a sell.

yups. those people are the cheapest ones available. they want to pay as little as possible. your objective is to make profit. say simply "i do not discuss this" or you could lie and just say the price is 5 bucks under what you're selling it. according to their logic you're making profit still. they just don't know how much. 😀

Their side is wrong. I don't ask bestbuy how much they buy their stuff for. None of my bloody business. If that person doesnt' want the hardrive at 120 when it's worth $200 they can go to hell. I'd just lie in the future.

you should know that adding opportunity costs etc to the price of the item is not LYING, those are real costs that you put up so you should get back. if your "friends" don't understand that, they are either morons or greedy and want to cheat you.

I would assume these people are cheap. So don't lie. When they ask what you paid for it, just smile and say, "Actually, it's no longer available. Thanks anyway." If they complain, say you just remembered you promised it to someone else. You'll find someone else to sell it to at those prices, and they'll quickly stop asking when they realize the deals might not be available any more.
