grr. You know, I thought ICQ was going to be okay. As long as they made it so I could turn off the pointless "features" they put in every new release, I was happy.

But now, I have banner ads in my message windows. At the bottom. Just lovely. The windows already took up enough space on the screen, and now they take up more.

[/rant]

With that done, does anyone know of an ICQ compatible client (no, not Odigo, I tried it and hated that Ad tossing spyware mutant that looks like it came from the land of Ronald McDonald)?

If it works with AIM as well that's even better.

Removing the three .DLL files listed will get rid of the graphical ads at least. Quick and easy fix.

That's odd... I'm using 2000a and I never got any banners.

I'm using 2000a Beta v. 4.31 Build # 3143. This was one of the original 2000a builds.

Kami- mine didn't show any banners for some time, and then one day they just showed up randomly. Your version may be immune from it...but who knows. For a preemptive strike, follow some of the tips in the thread anyways. ;)

There's some key in the registry that is like AutoUpdate = "Yes" automatically. If you set it to no (before it updates without your permission), you can avoid getting the ads. Edit: Actually, I guess not. :| :| :| :| :|

As for getting rid of them after the fact, just sort through all the stuff in that thread.
