<rant>I hate Via</rant>

Title says it all. I hate Via. I hate them with a passion. Because of them, I am working late trying to get people's systems running correctly. Trying to find that magic combination that allows a system to run somewhat stable. And I am not talking about old MVP3 or KT266 chipsets. KT400 chipsets even. Arrrghhh. Why is it so hard for Via to make a stable chipset? (Ali sucks also but who buys Ali?) SiS is not that bad. Non ECS SiS chipset based motherboards seem to be pretty stable. NVIDIA chipsets seems to be stable. Intel is the gold standard in chipsets. Why can't stupid Via get it done right? I am tired of working late nights, even weekends. Arrrghhh. Sorrry for the rant. I've just been working to much lately.

Once upon a time I was enamored with building my own computer. I did tons of research and put together a "golden" parts list. Then I got a computer for free from my scholarship, and recently bought a Dell 8250 for $250 after rebate.

I dunno, maybe I'll build my next computer, or maybe I'll wait till Dell bends over for me again. I dunno. 😀

Sorry about your problems though. 😉

And I own Intel's "worst"

chipset ever produced. The infamous i820, hehe works great...LOL best chipset I've ever used.. *knock on wood*

ALi agree... right in front of me is a 2 year old Gigabyte GA-5AX with the infamous Aladdin V chipset... :| WORST MOBO ever created ... VIA Apollo (for P3) is quite stable. But AMD platforms I stray AWAY from VIA chipsets. I still keep MY AMD 751 mobo.. until Nforce 2 supports 200 FSB officially...

Sorry to hear bout it man... 🙁

Epox KT333 board here, rock solid stable.

ASUS KT133A board before, also rock solid stable.

That being said, I know what you mean.

I try to only buy boards with chipsets made by the manufacturer of the processor. Who would have a more intimate knowledge of their system than them?

I never had problems on my BX board, or my AMD-760 board. The Via chipset boards I've had have been good, but not great.

you know that they say.... "cheap people pay twice". And that is so true! Going with low end system always ends up bringing some sort of problems, which in a long run cost money and headaches. After all, more expensive components are priced higher for a reason (well, most of the time at least).

my kt133a board crashes playing any 3d game now :|:|:|:|:| i have no idea why it does that. it burn-in tests fine, even with sandra's multimedia burn-in...maybe the stupid 4-in-1's or "hyperion" as they're now called, are the problem.

Didn't you read the Readme before installing the Hyperions? Or check the ViaArena forums? They're not recommended for any chipsets but the KT400 because they enable 8xAGP. Go back to the 4.43's and that will fix your problem.

Personally, I love Via boards. A Via has been in my main rig steady for like 3 or so years now, way back to a KX133 and a 694X. Fast. Cheap. Stable.

Where do you get the 4 in 1 drivers anyway? I gotta get em methinks.

I like the amd 761 and the nforce chipsets. Never a bsod unless I try.😉

Only install the 4in1's in a system with a Via chipset mobo: Link
Version 4.45 for KT400 systems, 4.43 for all earlier systems.

You know what I find strange..In all of my time building computers, I have never personally owned a non-VIA chipset!!😛

Even my Intel machines🙂 They all work fine for me. Of course, I'm planning on getting a nice nForce2 board soon😀😀

me neither.

what board are you using? jetway?!?

Asus A7V266-E, with an Athlon XP 1800+ and a GeForce 3. This box is about a year and a half old or so..

No problems at all here, running a Gigabyte 7VRXP (KT333) with the Hyperions (I havn't had a single problem with them, lol).

Were you at least nice enough to give them a kiss and promise to call them?

The last 2 or so computers Ive built have been Ali chipsets. Its been much more stable to me than via chipsets. Next time you buy a motherboard dont buy a via one...
