i hate it i knew i should have stuck with intel, this thing is a piece of junk, software hangs stuff doesnt work properly, god its such a POS.

now mind you i know its not the actual chip thats $hitty, im sure its fine, its the goddamn buggy motherboards, who the fvck makes good athlon boards?!?! I asked people and they said go with ASUS with a non-ALi chipset, fine, i did that, its still crappy! crappy piece of crap, im just gonna run it as a file server since no one can play any games on it. im glad i have a P4-1.5ghz, for all you intel haters, wanna buy an thlon from me?

PS: dont go telling me ohhh you bought an ASUS!! what were you thinking?! you should have bought an MSI board or a Abit board... i dont want to hear it, thats a very lame answer.

have you installed the Via 4 in 1 drivers? My Athlon 1.2@1.4 is just as stable as my BX P3 setup ever was, despite the crappy VIA chipset. Took them a while but i guess they fixed it now. Too bad I had to get rid of my SB Live

Should have gone with an AMD chipset (with a Asus MOBO). Via is the root of all evil. ;)

Wait I see you have an SB Live, what motherboard do you have? It if has the VIA 686B southbridge that mite be the prolbem. Even with the newest drivers and newest BIOS the LIVE stills crewed up my computer

see this is exactly what im talking about , why should have to give up your sb live? its the most popular sound card in the market, youd think some idiot would test it properly....

The SB Live is a piece of junk. Not only is it one of the most incompatible sound cards ever made, it sounds terrible. Pick yourself up an AOpen AW744 Pro from Mwave.com or something. You can get one for about $25 and it'll blow away the sound of that SB Live.

ohhh you bought an ASUS!! what were you thinking?! you should have bought an MSI board or a Abit board !
:)

The chipsets support for AMD is weak.
Can't use this component with this one, need thoes magical 4 in 1 drivers.

The money saved is not worth the time wasted or stress level.

But then again, I love em both.

Why not? I am sure you would be giving us much the same reaction if we were bitching about some sh1tty Intel mobo.

i like my sb live 5.1, regardless of what you think of it it is still the most popular sound card on the market, hands down there maybe a hundred better cards but if you dont support the sblive your screwing a bunch of people. (probably >50%)

I build this PC (Duron 600, MSI K7T Pro, SB 128 PCI) from scratch. I didn't install the 4-in-1 drivers and this system is rockstable.

The K7T Pro uses the VIA KT133 chipset, BTW.

PS: I agree that the SB Live! is junk. I know very few people who actually like this card or can get their system stable with this POS installed.

Then it should also be slow as dirt in any games. Ok not really slow as dirt but it will be much slower than if you installed them

I have an MSI motherboard w/ via chipset, thunderbird 1gig, soundblaster live...and I have yet to experience a stall that wasn't caused by an improperly installed game (heh). If you install the drivers and such correctly, then the AMD and its chipsets are just as stable as intel's. Anyone who says otherwise either had some bad luck, or didn't get the hardware setup correctly.

Edit: I do so love how it's become fashionable to talk down on the sb live! Gotta love fads :)
