[Rant] How do these people get into/survive in college? Update: Group from hell

haha! ah, good ol' C&H...thanks for reminding me, that one hadn't crossed my mind.

HotChic, you have my sympathy, group projects definitely suck (not 100% of the time, but as a general rule), and here's hoping you get a decent grade on the project.

Groups that have to turn in one project together is just asking for trouble.

The theory for "borderline" students is to get into a group with one person that does all the work. If you take a look around and notice nobody doing any work, guess which one you are?

The reason they get in is because getting into college is very easy. Highschool is, for the most part, a total joke. Even a clown can do well in most cases.

Once you get into university if you are in a group setting it's all too easy to rest on your laurels and let somebody else - such as hotchic - do most of the work. Since Hotchic is not likely to deliberately fail the project to spite these people they know that she'll do the work and they can tag along.

Yes, it sucks when you're getting the shaft for other people's laziness.

However, we all need to realize is that in REAL LIFE, in REAL WORK, most of the time we will be working in teams. Granted, the people that you will work with won't be as bad as a bunch of college students who have just found their new so-called "freedom," but still...

I had one not too long ago where the two of the four other people did nothing!!! I had to do all the work myself the night before! :|

Although, I earned an A for everyone, but the teacher didn't give the slackers any credit for it. They both failed the class because of it!

My group work in University did NOT mimic real life team work WHATSOEVER. God. You have no idea how bad that was. Real life now, I enjoy. Maybe it was the fact that it was in university....nah. It didn't prepare me either way!

From my limited experience with life-- those who can work in and with groups tend to eventually become the leaders. People who do not work well with groups tend to become "task" drones.

Ill admit, the above is over generalizing, but thats what I have so far seen.

The only good thing about these people being in college is that they're not out destroying some helpless organization or government somewhere

This is why people have clubs and extracurricular activities. I mean Young Republicans? What sorta crap is that?

This is my last quarter at UCLA and I've had my fair share of horrible group project experiences. In one class one girl submitted her part of our group paper and it turned out to have been DIRECTLY PLAGIARIZED from a website. In another group project someone never came to meetings or did any work and ended up getting the same grade as the rest of us.

This quarter I'm working on two group projects but in each case I'm working on it with a friend so we just end up procrastinating. Bottom line: Individual work rules.
