RANT: House closing today.. OR SO I THOUGHT

I had all my ducks in order and my new house was scheduled to close today. EVERYTHING was in place. I have deliveries scheduled for tomorrow, everything is packed up and I'm ready to move. Now I call the builder to see how I get my keys, and behold: the city had not filed my deed. They are making some "changes" to some documents and thusly cannot file the deed until they make these changes. They're "shooting for Friday".

They knew I'd be closing today for six months (SIX, that's HALF A YEAR). Do they have a calendar over there?

I spoke to a "director" over at City Hall and they're talking to an attorney to see if I can get an "interim solution" like maybe sign whatever documents they have now and sign revisions later.

Until then... I'm gonna have to find a place to stay.

The close process of a house is one of the worst experiences one will face in their lifetime.

Paging DrPizza, closing horror story needs topping :)

Times likes this I feel better about sending my money off to Schwab and just leasing for another year. Home ownership sounds nice, but so many hoops to jump through.

Closing on my house was pretty painless...I think going to boot camp or getting wisdom teeth pulled are worse

When I bought mine, it was a piece of cake. Life went downhill 2 months later to compensate for that.

Ha, I thought of DrPizza also, nothing could possibly top that sordid little drama.

Do people actually read what they sign during closing day?? Or better yet, do you read the papers they gave you 2 days earlier that your'e about to sign during closing day?

I heard the horror stories about closing and my first closing went through without any major screwups in April. My hand did hurt, though, once I got finished.

Here's some advice....you must sign your name exactly as they have it printed on the contracts. If your name is shown as John M. Smith, then signing as John Smith won't work. ;)

The thing is, the guy at the city is a smug jackass. The city dropped the ball in filing the paperwork and that's the only reason this is happening. He doesn't really seem the care at all... I wonder what recourse I have.

And of course he still hasn't called back. As of now I have no closing date?!?

By the way, I signed all closing documents week before last and handed over that fat cashier's check. There should have been nothing to do today but pick up the keys.

I went through mine in Dec '02 and didn't think it was too bad. I sat through my uncle's (I was helping him) just last Friday and that afternoon was one of the most agonizing in recent memory. Not to mention we were third in line that day and the first couple was 2 hours late so it pushed everyone else back. Fvcking morons. Then our loaning bank told us to make out a check for $10k more than we needed... so we had to drive down to the bank to get that corrected. Fvck you too, HSBC. Got there at 1pm, didn't leave till 6pm.

And to think it was uneventful yet exciting when I closed on my own...

Closing is definitely no fun unless it's all in order. I can't imagine being the attorney or the title guy doing that every day of my life. NO THANK YOU, I don't care how much they make.

Alright, they "rushed" whatever documents they need to rush and I should get the keys tomorrow. Bastards
