<< EDIT: I was being truthful, when I said that my feelings for her had changed; that I, ironically, "no longer thought of her in that way"... she is attractive, and intelligent, but we lead completely different lifestyles. To say that there was some part of me that wants to date her is truthful; but no where near as strong as it was four years ago. >>

So what kind of lifestyle could she be leading that is so alien to you that you're willing to be a (good) friend to her, but to not be involved romantically?
>>

She drinks (I enjoy a glass of wine or a Mike's Hard Lemonade every now and then), but a lot; she uses pot and E, and she smokes.

I'm there for her in any way that I can be as a friend, but I'm not willing to be with someone who engages in a lifestyle like that.

<< Zakath.. how old are you?

I'm sure that if you keep looking, you'll find a decent woman somewhere. There are plenty of us looking for a decent guy. :) Unfortunately, it seems like most people (at least most people that you meet, or that you notice) aren't like that.
>>

I'm 18, freshman at the Univ. of Washington. I got time, :D.
>>

I think in a few years you'll find you are a real prize :) As far as mind reading, it is true that some women DO know you like them and play innocent. But not all -- and the peoplw that do that are typically incredibly insecure, even if they mask it well. I find myself irritated by people like that, whether they are male or female, and so I avoid them (as close friends, too). As you have more and more friendships and romantic encounters you will learn to detect who is authentic and sincere.

I appreciate that, J... *sigh* I'm guessing most of the answers to most of the young mens' problems on here come down to basically time and maturity.

Heh.. a true, and insightful, comment.. Time and maturity give you the perspective to realize that what you consider a problem now really isn't such a major issue in the grand scheme of things..

lol I remember back to... okay, well, even last year... things that were so important then really don't matter that much now. Hmm.

Now look ahead to when you'll be 30.. Imagine that effect multiplied tenfold or more. I'll bet she won't even be a blip on the radar. (Some girl? Jr. High? Who cares...?) :)

lol Assuming no drunken backseat gropes between the two of us.... like that'd ever be an issue anyway. I never know with that girl.

You're right, though... kinda funny how time passes like that.
