I think they make between 2 and 3 times minimum wage...

That seems obvious.

And I just got another reason not to shop at Best Buy, not like I needed one. I would never shop there anyway, the place seems custom-tailored to needs of the computer illiterate, which I am not.

And why don't I shop at Best Buy? Simple, the "techs" and "salespeople" are not only arrogant, rude, and incompetent but also (most importantly) they have the worst return policy in the business PERIOD. Buy a DOA product at Best Buy and expect to do a simple exchange? Good fsckin' luck! If you want away with the exchange without being accused of theft or having broken the product yourself, count yourself lucky. IMO, Best Buy knowingly sells DOA products right out the door just to screw people on the returns/exchanges.
In the meantime, if I buy something at Fry's who (in the amazingly rare event that their price is higher) will actually price-match and do returns/exchanges without complaint or hassle.

I will cheer the day Best Buy goes out of business and all their nasty bad-attitude employees get tossed onto the unemployment line...

lol, it's exactly the opposite here. Fry's you have to lube up, bend over backwards, and take it all in in order to get a refund/exchange of any kind. I can't tell you how many times I've returned/exchanged stuff at Best Buy without them hesitating, including getting an exchange for defective copies of movies/games.

And most computer geeks don't need BB to install their hardware for them. That's like expecting a mechanic to take his car into Midas for a brake job. Yes, BB is tailored to the needs of the computer illiterate - that's what their services are there for. You can't cook? Buy a meal. You can't fix your car? Take it to a mechanic. You can't install some wiring in your house? Hire an electrician. You can't install your own computer hardware? Let someone like the techs at Best Buy do it.

There isn't a single person here who isn't capable of doing anything and everything. We all need help somewhere.

2) DON'T tell me your a 'tech'. I DONT CARE. It doesn't make me relate to you or any BULLCRAP. I KNOW your lying because if you're a tech, WHY are you paying me $35 to install RAM???

3) I DON'T care how important your pda, printer, pc, laptop is. It will get fixed JUST as fast. Want to yell about it? I'll make sure it takes 2x as long.

4) I DON'T care how much money you spend here. I do my best on EVERY computer. I WILL NOT make special circumstances unless you are NICE.

5) Show up with a good attitude and get 10x better service. I will bend over backward to do WHATEVER I can to make things right if your nice. Be a bitch, and I will make your life so difficult you wish you were never born.

6) I DON'T care who told you what on the phone. Your probably lying. If your not, then I have the final word anyway. If it gets replaced I SAY SO. NOT jimmy-bo-bob that you called three weeks ago.

7) Your warranty will NOT pay for an item 2x the cost of your original one. YOUR PAYING THE DIFFERENCE. Want to argue? HOW ABOUT WE DON'T REPLACE IT AT ALL!

8) We ARE NOT giving you a new PC. I cannot BELIEVE you expect that we will replace your 3 old old pc when your cd rom goes bad. SCREW YOU.

The End.

#4 and #5 contradict don't they??

I'll sell you one of mine for $20. :)

Best Buy techs, the good ones, are overworked like crazy. Handle all repairs, include booking things in and out. Handle all returns via inspection to make sure things are really broken and everything is included. Help out the product specialists (ie. salespeople) on the floor.

There's a LOT of bad techs out there, but a number of damn good ones too. When I was in computer sales at BB, I tried to use my powers for only good, not evil. If the people were truly computer illiterate and the reasonably priced system they were looking at was low on RAM, I would recommend some decent RAM and tell them to just have the techs install it to avoid the hassle. Those services truly are useful for some people.

blame your own sales people for this one.

i was with a relative while they were shopping around for PC, and the sales guy was pimping the "performace plan" (ie extended warranty). he outright said "since pc technology is changing so rapidly, in 3 years you'll pretty much get a new pc if anything goes wrong."

i've had sales people say that to me about PDA's in the past too.

So does that mean I can start working there, and the next week buy a $4000 plasma TV for cheap? And how cheap is cheap?

I'm being completely serious, I really want to know if this is a feasible way to save money or not.
No. You must work there at least 30 days.
But, would they let someone who only works 4 hours per week qualify for the discount?? Most other places of employment only start to provide benefits/discounts, etc. when an employee works at least 20 hours per week.

Yes. After 30 days, everyone gets a discount. Rarely, do they keep anyone for just 4 hours per week though.

4 hours a week? Sounds like BS.

If you didnt know what you were getting into working there, then your a tool.

So let me get this straight.

You are hired into your position @ BB.
Part of your job responsibilities includes dealing with customers who have purchased things in the store.
You knew this when you accepted the job.
And now that you actually have to deal with customers, you feel that you got the short end of the deal?

That's just fscking stupid.

SHUT YOUR FACE!

Because

It's Official!

You better get down on yo knees and ....

...treat the customer right, the customer can treat you like crap because he/she is the one in command. If you lose your customers, your company is outta business, and you are outta job.

Cheers!

Dealing with the people who buy computers at Best Buy is dealing with the bottom of the technically-savvy food chain.

You would be best served to just do your job and bide your time until you find a decent helpdesk job.

The End.

Actually, I believe your policy on warranties is if you send a system in 3 times you will replace it with a computer that is equal to or less than the cost of the computer WHEN YOU BOUGHT IT. My dad got a new laptop that way. =)

I think it's agreed that you don't need to be in customer service.

If I was your manager, you would be fired the second I spot an attitude like that. Go to work, do your work, you represent Best Buy, so freaking act like it.

And as someone else said, where do you get an attitude like that working 4 hrs a week? You should be at the lowest level, taking orders from everyone else. Regardless...

Damn. everyone in this thread needs to Chill. You have to vent when you are in retail because customers are dumbasses.

If you don't work retail, and never have, STFU about "customers being the boss" and all that crap. Guess what. You act like you are the boss of a retail employee, and they will make your life hell.

Some customers are not worth the $ they bring into the store. Some retailers know this thankfully.

However, Even if the customer is Scum, being retail, you have to put your best face forward. At least until a point. The customer crosses that line and they can go to hell for all the retail employee cares.
