I made a thread a while back about how expensive glasses are. This was especially true because I was buying frames and lenses from a small shop that seems to charge a lot.
ATOT recommended that I find somewhere else to get the lenses done. The shop where I got my frames doesn't allow refunds (and I had already paid for the lenses), but they made an exception, and I had the lenses done at Fred Meyer, thus saving around $100.
Fast forward a month. I got my glasses back from Fred Meyer, lenses and all. Yay! Except that they are a little crooked. So I took them into Fred Meyer to get them adjusted. She takes a look and realizes that the screw holding the bottom of the frame to the top of the frame (which also holds the lens in place), appears to be stripped, because it won't stay in. Fred Meyer doesn't have this brand of frames, so they recommend that I take them to the shop where I got the frames originally to get a new screw, and have them adjusted there.
So I do.
They take one look and the immediate reaction is, "Wow! They sure fucked these up!". The bottom of the frame where the screw enters is beat up pretty bad like someone struggled with it. Nothing terrible, but noticeable cosmetic damage. And it turns out that the screw is fine, but it's the inside of the frame that is stripped.
Whoever did the lenses made them too big, and to try and make things work, they over tightened the screws to try and bind the frame, and stripped in the inside threading. Great.
So at this point, I see where this is going. Not good.
Instead of playing the blame game a bunch, I asked them what the best way to remedy this would be. They tell me that I will probably need new frames. Of course, if I had gotten the lenses from them, they would have replaced the frames without any questions (doh). Despite me cancelling my lens order with her shop, she tells me to just leave the frames and lenses with her, and she would personally call Fred Meyer to try and work it out.
An hour or so later, I get a call from the frame shop. She called Fred Meyer. They, of course, don't like being blamed, and inform her that I had signed a form removing them from any responsibility associated with damage to the frames. My fault for not reading all of the fine print, I guess.
I called Fred Meyer myself, after this, and she said that the best she could do was call her corporate office to see if they could make an exception. Even if they do, though, she thinks they will only get me frames from their store, not replace the ones I paid several hundred dollars for.
This whole thing has me so bummed out. I know this rant sucks. It's just one of those things I needed to air out.
TL;DR:
Tried to save money on lenses so I took my new (expensive) frames to Fred Meyer.
They made the lenses to big and damaged, probably ruined, the frames.
Nobody wants to pay for it.
