umm, if im not mistaken firefox 1.5 is not firefox 1.0.x. The extensions are programmed to work under a certain framework, if that framework is different it can open up a security hole.

all it takes is the author of the extension 5 minutes to change the allowed version number and test it. don't blame firefox but the extension's author.

STFU. No one likes Opera here. Opera doesn't have any of Firefox's extentions so your point is moot.

actually a ton of people here use Opera and prefer it over the other browsers, myself included, is does everything FF does, and does it better

and if any of you dipsh!ts paied attention you coudl have gotten a free opera serial from opera last week, takes care of the add

also if you know how to use google you can get rid of the ad in about 3 seconds

Looks like the spell checking works great

One of my colleagues found that five out of seven of her extensions, including several that were indispensable to her daily work, no longer functioned.

This is by design. Firefox's Extension System for 1.0x and below was broken. For example, the installation, upgrade and uninstall subsystems were not very robust at all.

When installing a new version of an extension, files from older versions would be left behind, and this could lead to incompatibilities and mysterious crashes.

The fix was to completely revamp the Extension System. Unfortunately for users who want to use the beta as their main browser today, that means they'll have to do without their favorite extensions.

So what if it is beta - why can't they keep the 'same' extension engine?

Because its an UPDATE....

If you would like they could keep everything the same and then you would be happy now wouldn't you. Its free, be grateful.

Good try, except he doesn't bother with spell-checking. Can you come up with anything else?

LOL you must have mean spell chucker - yes because spelling goes out the windows along with the stability.

FF is actually stable as any other browser. Seems like java causes the most fux as anything else. I will pass on the beta for now. The speed of current FF is fine for me.

I'm about to get pissed at the whole thing though.

Why is it every dang upgrade breaks every dang extension (or most of them?)

I just upgraded to 1.5 release 1 - and most of my most beloved extensions are now not working.

Adblock still works thank god, and so does flashblock - but stumbleupon, pdfview, mediaplayerconnectivity, etc all do not work!

WHY! Can't they stick with a dog gone system for more than one release?

i never upgrade unless i'm sure all the extensions I have will work on it.
