I ordered an HDTV reciever and 3 additional rooms to be added to my DirecTv service at home.

I did this on August 2nd 2004. They charge my Credit Card for the equipment and shipping
that day! I was scheduled for installation on August 7th 2004 1pm-5pm. On August 7th at
12noon I received a call from the installer that he would not be able to make it. I called
DirecTv and had to reschedule for August 21st 2004 8am-12noon. After an hour on the phone
the said they would credit my account for 2 of the additional receivers. Now, on the morning
of August 21st 2004 the installer called my house and asked if he could change it to a 1pm-5pm
appointment. I said no, make it hear as soon as possible. Needless to say he arrived after 1pm
and I was raining like h3!!. He said he could not install it because of weather. I said if you were
here on time you would be done by now. They then rescheduled me for September 1st, 2004
1pm-5pm. I called DirecTv again on the phone and with manager would not give me anything
this time. So, on September 1st 2004 the installer arrive at my house at 3:30pm and the first
thing he says to me is "You cannot get HDTV". He did not go on my roof. He said he could tell
from the trees in my yard I would not be able to get it. I asked him to then install the 3 additional
receivers and I guess I would return the HDTV Stuff. He said he would not do that. He got
this manager on the phone and he told me I had to call DirecTv and his installer was leaving for another
job. I told him the installer could not leave until we got this thing worked out. While, I was calling
DirecTv the manager was calling the installer to get the local police department. I over heard this
and told he to just get the fvck outta my yard. I finally got thru to DirecTv and canceled my order.
They claim they are going to credit my account for the hardware I never received. I really
p!ssed me off. They could not tell me why the guy on August 21st didn't tell me I did not qualify.

Thanks for letting me rant.

I am going to get my additional receviers off of eGay and install them myself.

Wow. Guess they don't need any more business. One dissatisfied customer leads to so many more non customers. Hell, you weren't even able to be a customer before they pissed you off.

if you hate that company so much after an experience like that why are you even willing to go the egay route and give that company money every month. Switch to one that has a decent customer service

be careful.

my friend had a similar experience with dish network and they kept sending him notices to pay for that initial month even though customer service told him repeatedly that the notices were a mistake and that they would clear it up.

eventually, they had a collection agency start hounding him and threaten to mess up his credit.

he finally had to have his attorney call dish network and fix everything.

The cable company in my area is much worse.
It is a small mom & pop cable company.
So much for living in the country.

Happy customer here.

Same here, but a big problem that Directv & Dish Network have is that they use local contracters for installation, and some of these companies just suck ass. Avsforums has lots of similar tales of crap service involving techs not wanting to do an install by just looking at the house.

Same. I was going to mention the contracted companies myself, but you beat me to it. The guys I had were relatively cool about the install, but there was still a sort of disconnect there, like you could tell that they didn't care too much what you thought about the service.

Man, I had a very similar experience - it's scary. Basically, after being d*cked around for 10 days (time that I had to spend without TV since I disconnected my cable) the guy finally showed up and promptly told me he's gonna have to charge me for zillion other extras.... After he added everything, the *FREE* installation came out to $200. Furious, I called directTV and told them that I was never informed about all those extra costs. They said the costs were mentioned on the contract. Yeah, they were mentioned on the contract, which was inside the box with the equipment. That same box had in huge letter written "TO BE OPENED BY PROFESSIONAL INSTALLER ONLY". Needless to say, I told directTV to go f*ck themselves and said that I'll do my best to discourage any potential buyers from buying their crap.

The said they'll refund me for equipment. Well, 40 days later, after I raised a dispute with my CC company they finally refunded me for the hardware minus the shipping. So in the end I was out $15 and 10 days without TV. I got my Comcast Digital cable now and I'm pretty happy with it.

I didn't have any problems with extra charges -- the installer actually gave me some extra coax cables for free.

Now Comcast, on the other hand, is a company that I've had a ton of problems with. I was their customer for most of 2003 and they gave me outdated receivers that failed and, when I called to troubleshoot it, said that the soonest time they could come out to replace them was two months later. Just to drop off a receiver.

So of course, they came out and I'd already forgotten about it. The installer called me up and was incredibly rude about me not being there. As a result, I have DirecTV and Qwest DSL now, heh.
