Rant! Delivery Driver hit my car and then denied it!

I was sitting in my car waiting for my wife to get a smoothie when a delivery van 'bumps' my bumper as he pulls along the curb in front of me. I was parked parallel, he turned too sharply and his outer right edge rear bumper grazed my outer left front bumper. I felt the impact as it jostled my car.

I get out and look at the bumper, and the damage is very minimal, just a scuff, no real damage, but I said to the guy, "BTW, You just hit my car as you pulled over." He says, "No, I didn't." I say, "Yes you did, here is the scuff." He says "No, I didn't."

I said something like, "whatever, but you DID hit my car."

Then he tries to turn the tables and says, "You aren't even supposed to be parked there."

I was legally parked, but the front bumper on my car was even with the 'no parking' zone boundary. As if it would of justified him hitting my car. Bleh. Anyways so I get back into my car. I never had any intention of filing a claim as the damage was just a small scuff and my car is a 1990 model. BUT the fact that the guy would deny it without even looking at my car pissed me off.

So I get back in my car, and watch the guy pull out some supplies and then wade around my car to deliver them. He then called me a bad name as he was getting back in his van, at which point I just had to laugh at him.

Some people must go through life perpetually in attack mode.

<< That was a very passive reponse. >>

I agree, i would raise hell. First off, did you get the name of the company he was working for? Im sure they would 'love' to hear about this and how will see them in court if this dosent get resolved.

I would have gotten the license number and truck number if it had one and made a BIG scene of doing it too. Make sure you were out there with a pen and paper. It would have freaked him out. Then call it in and sound VERY angry about it. Say that you will need a new bumper and maybe even paint job for your car. They would have probably given you enough money for that, which you could have pocketed. When you call, make sure that you say specifically that you want that driver FIRED and that the money should come from him. That shows just how passionate you are about what happened. Give a visual description of the guy too and how rude he was. That will make it all the more convincing. Trust me, they would pay anything.

Guys, look at it from the other guys prospective. He really may not have known he had hit you, since vans are heavy it is a definite possibility. If he knew he hit you he was probably upset because A/ you were a bit in the no parking zone B./ he may have been afraid of a frivilous lawsuit and feared you may be one of those jerks who file them, which put him on the defensive. I'm definitely not saying what he said or did was right or justified, just saying to put yourselves in his shoes, because I really don't think he would have cursed at you unless he truly believed he hadn't hit you.

Like I said, I didn't think the damage was worth anything. I was just pissed that he would flat out deny it, without looking at my car. If I wanted to file a claim I would of called the cops, etc... I have no problem doing that. And as far as the driver not realizing he hit my car, I figure he probably didn't feel anything. BUT if somebody says "you just hit my car" your response shouldn't be "no I didn't". He is lucky he didn't do any significant damage, other wise I would of been all over him and his company.

You also got to realize though, the fact that you didnt seem to care too much probably makes him think what he did was ok. I would have made a stink even it if their wasnt any damage, just to show him that he cant do crap like that.

Should taken the plate number, etc..and when he asks you to stop doing it, then say : "If you didn't do it, then you don't have anything to worry about, do you?"

Call the Cops and let them and the insurance companies do their jobs!

You were legally parked!

The Delivery Driver has a CDL [Commercial Driver's License]. It is against the law for him to leave the scene of an accident....Federal and State!

I believe you, but this reminded me of that commercial (think it's for VW?) where the guy with the beater 80's sedan tells the woman in the new car that she dinged him while she was parking & then goes on to get the police involved, rants about how the damage is irrepairable, complains about back pain, etc.

If you could easily see the damage, especially if it's even with the bumper of his truck, and can find corresponding marks (indent from point of the bumper, paint transfer, etc.) then I don't see how the guy could argue that he didn't hit you. He was probably more scared that you were going to report him. Most truck drivers are more worried about the impact to their driving record (loss of job, problems finding future employment) than the actual cost of the repair. I'd say you did a good thing by not making an issue of it, but if he'd cussed me then I probably would have gone off on him at that point.

i think you got the VW ad backwards... dude was driving the new passat and got bumped by the woman in the beater 80s wagon and he makes a big scene out of it. and everyone is looking at him like hes insane because theres no damage.

To err is human, to forgive is divine... or something like that.

Anyways, I'm glad you gave the scumbag a break. You probably spared him his job. ;)

Should have shot him in the knee caps. That way when he went down he could have gotten a perfect view of the scuff. :D

For all you fanatics out there I'm just kidding.

BooneRebel is right about the VW commercial. The dude wants to rip off this woman because her VW "looks like a million".
