....never even told me!

I have been having connection problems for about a month.
Finally this morning I speak to a technician who tells me all my IP settings are wrong....he can't understand why it has been working at all for the past few months.

So I set everthing up to be automaticllay assigned and so far its working ok....

Are they complete morons???

I guess they dont like all the bandwidth sucking FTP servers people set up. But the losers should have at least told you!

what people fail to understand is -

THAT IS NOT YOUR IP ADDRESS. you don't own it, you don't even lease it. nowhere is your name even remotely tied to it. it is the providers to do with as they please.

you should be happy they switched, that way they can save some money on administration on concentrate on providing higher service levels.

It does not bother me whether I have a dynamic or static.

It does bother me that I have on/off service for a month becasue they switched and did not tell me.

I'm sure he understands that the IP doesn't actually belong to him but I can see the frustration of trying to fix a problem for a month to find out they went dynamic ip and didn't tell anyone.

yeah, that blows. I've had extremely poor service with @home. Was down for three weeks and the only answer was "you are in a known outage area"

three weeks !!!??

Wrong, even the provider doesn't own the numbers. ARIN (they may be part of ICANN now) controls the numbers, they have never asked for a block back, but in reality they could. And some of us pay extra for static IP's.

Same thing happened to me... but even worst, they were accusing me of stealing the IP, and that i could face losing my connection or worst. I had a huge fit after that threat, especially since i've had that same IP for 5 yrs now.
